Very Very strange - observations

I have a couple of Hip-Hop/R&B Live365 stations, (http://wkdh.freeservers.com) one low speed and one "broadband" and I've been running these two since '01, and I've always wanted to keep the music as current or better as is possible, but I'm finding the longer I go between updates, the high the monthly listener hours average goes. I watched my listener hours drop to almost half of what they were in June after doing an update in Mid-July having not updating in nearly 6 months and watching the streams increase almost daily. This was not the first time I've seen this happen. Is it just that the listeners are tuning away because they don't know the new music yet?

I was thinking it was some of the unsigned artists I added, but I've always had some new artists.

The streams were down for two days during the period, which I didn't think should matter too much as this kind of thing happens from time to time with the L365 servers.

Any other ideas?

I have a modern rock station and I experience the same thing, though I never go more than 3 weeks without significant updates. (Without servicing, it's hard to find legal copies of music sometimes, so you just have to wait.) I find that my listenership is higher before big shifts in the currents.

People like to hear music they know, for the most part. With thousands of stations, it's easy to jump to the next station if you don't like a song, whereas on the FM dial, you might have 2 or 3 stations playing a format at the most.<P ID="signature">______________

Yeah, I was going about 2 weeks to a month between updates before and just watching this strangeness, then I figured on doing that whole six months to test it. Never thought I'd get this result though. I guess people don't want the freshest music.

How do you promote the new stuff? I know on the radio, they do a hit or history or say here's the newest from so and so... so chr's create a custom intro for the song incorporating the promotion and their station...

Re: week 3 of no updates....

Care to guess what is happening? That's right, the TLH is growing fast, again it could partially be because there's now a solid month without a server outage from L365, but there's still a long way to go before it's close to it's previous high.
