Veterans' Day Promotions

I am looking for any ideas for Veterans' Day Promotions. In the past we've done a great luncheons...but the feel is that they are getting stale. I'm looking for any ideas that allows us to keep Veterans in the spotlight and to give back to them and honor them.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I would suggest looking into your communitys veterans day parade. This is an awesome way to generate dollars from clients. have your newsperson go to the event (which is generally less then an hour in some states) and interview vets before or after the parade. The emotion that races though them when they tell their story, the crackle in their voices, its an emotional sell....clients cant help but want to buy into something that attaches them to the communitys veterans. record the interviews and sell sponsors around them, throughout the month. It is a great revenue booster. ::)

You mention you did luncheons....how 'bout breakfast?

Our station took its' popular morning show out to a local restaurant for a Veteran's Day broadcast. The
restaurant offered anyone showing up in uniform, or with a military ID breakfast for 99 cents.

During the broadcast, we played games (both on and off the air), gave away prizes (one year I even think
we had a 3 day trip to a regional state park lodge that we gave away.)

It's a simple thing, but you can tie in a sponsor, sometimes a couple with your prize giveaways and create
some goodwill.
