VH1 Classic -- approaching midnight

Well, it looks like the wonderfulness that once was VH1 Classic is about to disappear. Gone are the actual music videos (much like its parent Vh1) and here come the reruns of VH1 crap shows: Behind the Music, bad documentaries, and ridiculous countdown shows--do we CARE about the 100 greatest 1-hit wonders anymore?

VH1 Classic was the last vestige of music television tracing back to the early days of MTV and now that's being taken away as an outlet for poor reruns.

Remember when VH1 used to stand for Video Hits 1? Now I guess it just stands for Vapid Hangers On.

Typical of all of Viacom's digital channels -- lure viewers in with decent programming with little or no commercials, then after a couple of years, change it into a crappy clone of the main channel. MTV2, TV Land and Nicktoons went the similar direction.

I just pulled up the VH1 Classic weekly listings at zap2it.com and what it looks like to me is that they are replacing the third playing of the daily themed video hours with the reruns of VH1 programming.

Overnights and daytime is the same as always. But can you blame them for not wanting to repeat video blocks more than once?

However, I do note that the Request Hour now apparently has a charge attached. 900#?<P ID="signature">______________

No, I don't blame them if that is truly their reason, but this has become their primetime block. I'm not watching daytime and latenight.

I am furious with Viacom/MTV for what they did to MTV-2. Its one of the reasons why I got digital cable in 2001 after I dumped my satellite dish.

Then Rainbow took over Much Music USA (2001) and started Americanized crap. Then it became Fuse which isn't too bad but isn't that bad but it has gotten worse.

Then MuchMusic Canada went downhill.

The only channel that is still the way it is since it started is MTV Hits except now they run reruns of TRL.

Request Hour is now PAY TO PLAY Request Hour. GREED to the max.

Music Programming runs from 1AM-7PM Central Time. From what happened to MTV-2, it'll be all special programming within the next year.

Re: VH1 Classic: Facts About Request Hour

Actually, no it's not. VH1 Classic has been promoting this ad naseum (understatement). It's a benefit for hurricane relief. All of the donations for requests go straight to charity. $25 gets you one video...$200 gets you an "8-pack" plus a painting...$35k gets you an entire hour. Obviously no one has put up the 35k because they've only raised about 40k total. I think this was a great idea.

Now, if they would only list the addresses for people who are requesting that God awful stuff I've been seeing since they started... :)
