Vh1 Classic's 2,009 for 2009

MTV should start doing this again, LoL. TO be honest, Viacom having a MUSIC VIDEO marathon is refreshing news. Considering they could have gone with Behind The Music or movie marathons.

I agree. Back in the 90's, MTV use to air a yearly top 200 videos ever countdown. Now by ever, mtv meant since they came on the air, as nothing pre 1981 made the list. Still it was generally a good mix of great 80, and early 90 tunes. MTV didn't sell out by havning mostly currents, recent currents and/or still big name artists make up the majority of the list. The same can't be said for VH1 classics (check out there top 200 of the 90's). Michael Jackson's Thriller was always #1, until around the mid-90's when Guns N' Roses "November Rain" bumped.

I don't know when mtv stopped this countdown, as by 1997 the network was crap, and I had no need for it, but it would be nice if they still did those sort of countdowns.

Which of the networks is doing an "I Love The 70's/80's/90's" marathon on New Year's Day?

You know there's gotta be one!

You mean you aged? :)

Happens to everyone, and most seemingly insist the network became bad instead of their own tastes evolving. Us older folks are supposed to dislike what the younger people like--and for the most part, MTV has managed to remain relevant to the target demo. I'd sooner poke my eyes out than watch MTV now, but since I enjoyed it when they played Journey and Bruce every hour, that's a sign MTV is doing what it should be.

You're right, it is good that they're doing a marathon of MUSIC VIDEOS. The only problem is, how complete will it be? They did an 80-hour 80s marathon last Labor Day Weekend. But it was really a 76-hour A to Z marathon of videos, and then 4 hours of "100 Greatest Songs of the 80s", but they only did the top 80, leaving 100-81 out. This A to Z marathon went in order by artists, while this one will be by song titles. But this marathon did lack a lot of songs. Hopefully, this one will have more.

Few remember that it was on January 1, 1985, that the original VH1 channel launched.

My, what 24 years can do to someone...

No, I was still very much in mtv's age demo in 1997. The network was crap by 1997, not because I grew too old for the music, but because by 1997 the music was no longer a priority. Also mtv changed its targeted demo. While the early 90's had a edgy mtv, that resulted in the network getting removed from some cable system. Mtv of the late 90's started to target females. Shows like alternative nation, top 20 shows, and such were dropped infavor for shows like TRL. All of this lead to n'sync, Britney Spears, and all the other bubble gum pop groups to rise up from there late 80's death and take over what music they did play.

Well, I somehow thought it was only going until Monday morning, since that's what my guide listed. But apparently, it will last straight to Midnight of NEXT Thursday! I think they're saying that it's like the ULTIMATE music video marathon. I know radio stations have done things like this before, but ever this long?

Radio marathons? Hmmm! As an example of that, WDRC-FM 102.9 of Hartford is doing a complete A to Z of every song in their music library. In this case it's by song title order. They started this a few days ago and are somewhere in their "K" songs right now. Sure enough that means "Knights On Broadway" from the Bee Gees will air at some point. Time to bust out the "Barry Gibb Talk Show" sketch from SNL! :)
