VH1 Country gone, replaced by CMTP

Tonight Comcast CC/SP eliminated VH1 Country in its lineup on Channel 145 and replaced it with CMTPure, which airs nothing but Country videos. Did MTV networks blow up VH1 Country or did Comcast just decide to eliminate them. No other music channel changes so far, there are still the urban flavored MTVH, MTV2, MTVS, VH1S and MTVJ on digital.

The switch from VH1 Country to CMTPure can be interpreted as a rebranding - Viacom (it's still Viacom on the cable side is it not?) saw an opportunity to associate a cable channel that plays country videos with CMT as opposed to VH1. To see it any other way is to overly read into things.

why the hate for Urban music
I DON'T hate Urban Music, but when you turn on every music channel and its Rap this, Thug that, Pimp this, Black Superman that, with the Race issue always concealed in the videos and lyrics. When you scan the radio dial and all you hear is some sort of Urbanic Music, it gets kinda old, repetitious and tiresome. How much can one hear and stand of this noise being constantly shoved down the listeners throat. If brands of music/videos were evenly spread out, you would never hear a word from me, but its so one sided. I can remember a few years back when there was an abundance of Rock oriented stations in Philly, "PLUS" plenty of Urban formats, everyone used to complain that there were too many Rock outlets on the dial. It seems the Rappers are much more vocal than the rockers. BTW, how is the old crew from WPRT, please tell the cigar smoker Randy said hi.

MTV Hits isn't rap/urban flavored. It seems to be in the middle, of just hit music. You'll see Natasha Bedingfield, James Blunt, All American Rejects videos and mostly pop, non-urban stuff.VH1 Soul is adult urban RnB - but NOT rap, no thug videos. VH1 Soul is actually an unusual channel. You'll see a really old, very old video, next a more current one like a Destiny's Child, then some really old one again. Some seem to have little appeal as well, and other have a lot more like an Usher video. In my book, there is lot of room for improvement for the choice of videos and order. I assume Dish Network and DirecTV have avoided adding that channel as a result.MTV2 and MTV Jams are more urban oriented, and so is MTV in the late hours when they show videos. The Vh1 channels, including VH1 in the middle of the night when it airs videos, typically aren't rap oriented. Maybe a few Kanye West videos or more mainstream stuff will show up, but not the MTV Jams stuff. It'd be nice if there was a Modern Rock Video channel. Isn't Fuse supposed to be more oriented in that? I haven't seen Fuse in years, since I had Dish Network, though. I like the 90's Alternative, and modern rock selection that WBBO 98.5 (Ocean County) airs - worth it sometime tunin in, if you can receive it. And there is the occasional findings from XPN and stuff.Other than that, I have to find stuff from iTunes, from soundtracks and Imixes. VH1 and the industry seems to be a lot slower. For example - I found James Blunt music months before VH1 and the radio stations began incessantly airing it.

I hear ya buddie, I listen to 98.5 when YSP is talking and MMR is just being MMR at times. It would be nice to have a Modern Rock Video Channel, also one for Metal, Classic Rock, Alternative and Hard Rock, or just combine them into one Rock Channel. All the video channels I mentioned are mostly urban oriented from what I have experienced. Believe it or not my Comcast system has Fuse on demand but not in the regular channel lineup. From what I sampled of the videos its kinda like MTV2, not all Rock.

The On-Demand thing is very slow in my area, and I have no idea of the bands Comcast or Music Choice puts videos up for. It's just too slow. I'll check the Fuse thing. For one thing, if you (meaning anyone) is into music or looking for way to find new music, it's not really worth getting digital cable, no matter how many MTVs or VH1s are there. They still are very subpar. If you have digital cable already for something else (like HBO) it's another story to check these channels out. That's my case.

Its really odd that Comcast has Fuse "ON DEMAND" but not on the digital lineup. Don't you think there should be a full time Rock Music Channel, with all the Urban and Country video channels, at least there should be a full time Rocker, combining all the brands of Rock at differnet times. Everyone tells me to get Satellite, I don't think there is a full time Rock outlet on any Satellite service, is there??? As a matter of fact is there a full time Rock Video Channel available anywhere, does one exist. VH1 Classic is doing Metal month all May, its refreshing, but there still are other non-Rock shows thrown in and they are repeating somewhat.
