I flipped past Comedy Central's HD feed about an hour ago and noticed they were showing promos with the old 'globe' logo and their 'grunge' look before the 'circle CC' logo came in two years ago. Nothing unusual...until it began to loop...and loop...and loop. They were showing ads for getting Mind of Mencia and Reno 911 wallpaper and their hour-long block of Scrubs...which hasn't been on that network for years. It hasn't stopped, and CC's SD feed is severely off schedule.
I decided to flip around, and found it just wasn't Comedy Central; all of Viacom's networks are broken down in some way or another. The Digital Suite music video networks all have 'please stand by' cards up, along with Nick's digital channels (Nick Jr.'s is nice, asking you to find the circles in a picture), MTV is still on, but logoless and playing a loop of Kanye West videos. Spike TV is still up (though in infomercial mode). Nick's feeds are still up somehow, while VH1 is on the air, but with video image tinged in the worst pink macroblocking I've ever seen come down a satellite. MTVU has a card up with a guy in an ironic t-shirt saying 's**t happens'. It looks like it's limited though to Viacom's HD and digital-only transmitted networks, with the analog 4:3's working just fine.
Obviously, Viacom's master control took a hard hit tonight, and I'll be interested in seeing how they fix it or make some kind of public statement about it (though there have been tweets from providers saying it's definitely at Viacom's end).
