ViacomCBS Carriage Deal with Charter Includes Streaming Services

This move will be more common going forward when more major TV Streaming outlets start to consider having their content go through carriage like cable does. Parts of this is to go after Comcast where its app Peacock is funded by xfinity TV and Internet subscribers in some TV markets such as San Francisco DMA.
ViacomCBS and Charter said they have a new multi-year distribution agreement that includes carriage of ViacomCBS’s broadcast stations and cable networks, as well as a license to sell the ViacomCBS streaming services to Charter’s Spectrum customers.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. One of the reasons for merging Viacom with CBS was to give the company greater clout with distributor like Charter.

As media companies pivot to streaming, there has been concern that by moving the best content to direct-to-consumer services, like ViacomCBS’s Paramount Plus, cord-cutting will be encouraged, hurting cable companies. ViacomCBS has stated that it wants to continue to work with distributors.

Spectrum is just a brand name of one product Charter sells, like the Camaro is a brand name of one Chevrolet product. So yes.

Charter is pretty much the parent company, Spectrum is their main brand for Cable and Internet. so yeah, this deal is for Charter Spectrum services.

Deadline.com gives specific information about ViacomCBS' streaming services that will be distributed to Spectrum customers.

The agreement covers linear networks, and streaming outlets like Paramount+, Pluto TV, BET+ and Noggin are earmarked for “future distribution to Spectrum customers,” a press release said.
