ViacomCBS inc analyst floats takeover rumors

Note Amazon, Netflix and Comcast are named as candidates. However the Comcast one is less likely to happen given that they own NBC. Amazon not likely given the pending MGM deal if it's true.

I heard of CBS wanting Lionsgate in the past but that was killed off at the time due to the Viacom talks.

Shari Redstone was hoping that by combining CBS and Viacom, her company would be too big to take over. Unfortunately with trillion dollar tech companies on the prowl, Viacom is now the small fish. With a market cap under $30 billion, the smart move would have been for Viacom to buy Discovery. That might have saved Viacom from this situation. So now she has to wonder what options she has for her father's company.

Turns out CBS and Comcast has plans for a joint Streamer in the EU which is has a proposed release date in 2022.

Deadline reported last month that the two entertainment majors were exploring combined opportunities in the international sphere, rather than planning a full-out merger. Recently, it was announced that ViacomCBS was partnering with Comcast-owned Sky for the launch of streaming platform Paramount+ in a host of European nations including the UK, Italy and Germany.

Those territories do not overlap with SkyShowtime, which is looking to roll out in the following: Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Kosovo, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
