Vic Latino's Neighborhood

Yeah I think the show is great. Finally Party 105 is starting to have some personality.
Now they need a web site, the myspace page and the stream page (just a logo) are not enough.

At least Vic doesn't have a long commute to Party 105. I remember him complaining on the air on KTU about driving to New York. But he still has to for XM.
Sounds better on Party 105 than on XM, I wish that XM 81 would simulcast his show nationwide.
And yes, Party 105 needs a website. I'd be willing to make a website for free.
What's crack-a-lackin' Long Island!

I'm glad that you five love it. You're probably thoe only one's that can hear it. When is everyone on this board going to get the fact that those station's just don't matter in the Long Island landscape. They mean nothing. Yes...Vic is a teriffic self promoter, but if he was such a great talent, don't you think that another NYC station would've picked him up? You people crack me up.

Well Rob, I think if you understood the sitution @ALL YOU WOULD THINK DIFFERENTLY... he is now the Operations Manager, Programing 3 stations, etc... this is a different oppurtunity then just being a jock in the city, so I find it intresting that you are judging the talent of someone when you dont know the deal behind it.

Of course I know the deal behind it. I also know that the Morey's gave him a piece of the business. But here's the thing. If you give someone a piece pf coal...it's still coal.

Those three stations don't mean a thing in the Long Island radio landscape. There's WALK, BLI, and BAB. Everything else is just scrambling for scraps. That being said, people on this board spend so much time speculating about what is next for WLIR. Who cares? The LIR that you all once loved is gone. Let it go. Yes it was a great station once upon a time. But it's long since over.

The Morey's have proved time and time again that they don't care about radio. If they did, they would never offer a piece of the business to someone with absolutely zero operations or programming in his background.

Is Vic talented...absolutely. Can he turn the piece of coal into a diamond? Not a chance in hell!

OK everyone.
Let's stop posting about Vic Latino even
though that's the title of this thread.
And besides, the TMO stations don't matter.
They're all gonna fail anyway.
Previous post says so.
Forget about Vic, TMO, And LIR then and now.

Let's just post about WALK, BLI and BAB.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Personally, I'd rather listen to Party105 and even a
lousy-signaled-absenteeDJ-LIR of today than
those stations.

"Personally, I'd rather listen to Party105 and even a

And that is the point. There is no question that the Moreys employ bizarre business tactics, flip frequencies, leave some employees with a bad taste in their mouth (as according to the many past posts on this board) and have WLIR into more of a discussion than an actual product.

But, listening to a morning show where the creative control belongs to the TALENT, IMHO, is wonderful. Too often programmers, consultants and other coporate types smother interesting and able personalities with micro-managing and second-guessing. Vic may not be an experienced programmer, but he is a very funny man, and judging by the CD's I see with his name on them, and the flier and club commercials that mention him, he is somewhat successful at managing a career.

Maybe TMO will blow up these stations tomorrow, maybe not, but listen while you can to a morning show that is run by the inmates! LOL I don't know if it will last, but I have faith it will be entertaining.

I've noticed that your posts on the NYC board usually add some substance to a thread, but here you are negative, with the same arguments. You made the same comment about the "12 people who listen to WMJC"

Instead of commenting on what you think the board should talk about, why don't you add something? You say there are only three stations that matter, why don't you talk about them? Why don't you tell us why the others don't matter, or perhaps all radio stations on LI should just listen to your advice, go dark and let NYC take over. I'm sure all these hardworking, dedicated radio people won't mind being out of work?

Its easy and wasteful to just spend your time putting down what others chose to talk about, you seem like you know the biz, so ADD something.

You know what Mike... you're absolutely right. I've said my peace about the Morey's and all that stuff. Let's talk about something that matters a little bit more. I'm sure you've noticed the continued slide WALK has been having in the last few books and even the last two monthly trends. It seems like Clear Channel has completely abandoned them. Why would clear channel turn their back on a station that could make them a great deal of money when a buyer somes along. I would thin that continued success would = more money.

Mornings have always been a strong hold there and it looks and sounds like the entire staff is just mailing it in.

This might be better suited for a different thread, but wasn't CC going to divest itself of WALK? That might explain why they have been "abandoned."

Obviously people need to get experience operating and programming a radio station somewhere. Party 105 just happens to be Vic Latino's first station. You think that a former market #1 personality wouldn't know anything about radio?
WALK, BLI, and 'BAB may have the biggest signals, but that isn't representative of all of Long Island radio. WLNG has a signal about the size of Party 105, and they are the top-rated station in Hamptons-Riverhead. I strain to hear Party 105 in New Jersey whenever it comes in on tropo, and I listen to it a lot online. It's stations like that that make people want to tune in through the static to enjoy. Those are the dedicated listeners that only stations that have a unique format like Party 105 will get. BLI plays the same hit music you can hear on Z100, KC 101, Kiss 95.7, and Q105.5. You can have a crap station on a 50000 watt 1000' high stick, and no one will listen.

I guess the comments I placed on the other thread regarding 98.5 can also hold true here. To me it appears that Vic Latino has done just fine in putting Party 105 back on the map. Good for you Mr Latino. Once again this man has proved that he is a one man marketing machine. Why didnt we scoop him up when we had the chance. Hmmm..... does anyones butt hurt from the kicking you are giving yourself now.

Vic is cool. I bugged when I was in Cali and caught him on the sat.Glad to hear he is back doing his thing at Party 105, a station he got off the ground.

In the landscape of radio Party 105 does matter. Alot of stations look to see what they add, and how many spins they are giving certian tracks. I look at the trades and they are always boasting 'Party 105 adds' right along KTU/z100 ect...Party 105 is respected in the industry. Good for them.

Im a rock guy and dont know my Beyonce from my Mary J from my Rhianna...but I tell ya that Lil Boosie 'Models' track is gnarly brah. Dont know if they are spinning it at 105. But man I LOVE me some of that southern gangsta sh!t. Get krunk! (do we still get krunk? is that the word?) :D

Party has wisely embraced hip hop/r&b/reggae as it's main dish, as dance continues to falter in the USA(No major dance cross over hit in America in 2007)...

I don't know about Party, but I do know that La Nueva Fiesta 98.5/96.9 is gaining traction in the spanish communities. Not bad for a weak signal that has only been around for about 2 months. Los personas está notando la estación de radio.
