But anyways, is this a real guy (presumably one of Petros & Money's untalented stooges), or is it just J.T. The Brick doing some sort of bizarre satire/metacommentary on how awful many update guys are (i.e. tonight he kept skipping over MLB scores to give us NHL playoff scores that maybe 1% of Petros & Money's audience cared about)?

Vic The Brick (or VTB for short) is a blight on the sports radio landscape. He transplanted to Los Angeles from NYC and his employers in Los Angeles for whatever reason cannot seem to rid us of him completely.

Before Fox Sports Radio went "national" (a very loosely based term, since 85% of Fox Sports Radio is just AM 570 KLAC staff beamed across the country) VTB was paired with Steve Hartman, now of Hartman & Myers, and Mychal Thompson (color commentator for Lakers radio). Mychal Thompson was a casualty of the Fox Sports Radio flip and was let go from KLAC. If you think VTB is annoying now, try imagining hearing his "shtick" for 3 hours straight. It was a nightmare.

VTB is the biggest homer on the planet. There is nothing about the Lakers or the Dodgers he won't praise. Even when the Lakers lost to the Celtics last year, Angelenos had to endure a grueling off season of VTB propping the Lakers for making it that far and how next year will be their year as ordained by GOD.

Since Fox Sports Radio, VTBs role has been greatly reduced, to the joy of millions of sports radio listeners. He is basically the "Sports Update Girl" for KLAC (the update roles for the longest time were always done by women like Jeanne Zelasko (way before making it to television doing MLB for FOX) and others that went on to better things). Unfortunately, this role keeps VTB hanging around the station for all hours now which is why he shows up on shows like Petros & Money. VTB has never been a part of The PMS despite what other may think.

I'm guessing this is Vic Jacobs? He did sports on the NBC affiliate in Austin in the mid-80's. HUGE Texas Longhorns homer at a time when Texas wasn't that good. Once did his sportscst from a meat locker filled with hog carcasses the week leading up to the Texas-Arkansas game. He had a foam brick he would throw at the camera when he didn't like something.

The station I work for cringed collectively when FSR announced that Vic was going to be doing the Fox updates afternoons. Thankfully, my bosses made the decision to cover the updates with our own.

Robnoxious and Smittan have it very acruate about Mr. Jacobs. I've been listening to sports radio in L.A. since my teens, and been hearing Vic's irritating sthick since the old XTRA Sports 1150 came on the air in 1997. They initially gave him his own solo midday show (at the same time the current Myers-Hartman show airs), then later teamed him up with Terry Bradshaw and Karl Malone. Once those shows failed, Vic got demoted to update guy, and then when San Diego's XTRA 690 merged its programming with 1150, for some odd reason he became a part of (or probably more accurately, forced himself on to) The Loose Cannons show.

Shameless ass-kisser doesn't describe Vic Jacobs enough, especially when it comes to Kobe Bryant and Manny Ramirez. There's no one else like him.

Our local CC sports station here in Houston, 790 The Sports Animal, aired Vic's updates for a few weeks at the top of each hour in lieu of a local update segment. That was brutal radio offset by the hilarity that was Charlie Pallilo not even attempting to hide his complete disgust at Vic having any airtime on his station.
A few weeks later, Vic The Brick was gone and he hasn't returned.

Shameless ass-kisser doesn't describe Vic Jacobs enough, especially when it comes to Kobe Bryant and Manny Ramirez. There's no one else like him.

Which is why I laughed my @$$ off when Ramirez got busted for steroids... err, fertility drugs. : But when OTHER personalities on the network (i.e. Brian Weber and Derek Deitz) make light of Vic's love of Manny (suggesting that Vic should be the first person to interview Manny... with a laugh at the end) you have a big-time problem on your hands.

At first when WDFN in Detroit got rid of their local shows, they had local updates, which spared us from Vic the Prick. But after the Pistons season was over, they fired all the local update staff, and now it's VTP every afternoon. Awful! And will someone tell him that the generally accepted form of a Haiku is 5 syllables-7 syllables-5 syllables? PLEASE?!?

I don't know if any of you guys and gals heard the first hour of today's Hartman-Myers program (July 30), but two of the callers and Chris Myers took Vic to task for his "reporting" on his updates and showing favoritism towards certain players (i.e. Manny, Lamar Odom, and his #1 guy Kobe). I'm probably reading too much into this, but I'm getting the feeling that Myers doesn't care for Vic Jacobs, almost disregarding Vic through the show except for the updates.

I believe Vic is in Burbank at CC Los Angeles, and JT's at the Premiere HQ in Sherman Oaks.

I remember when Hartman (and the station) were "auditioning" guest hosts to fill the co-host slot. When Mychal T. was announced as the co-host, I cringed. I did not like his voice or style. (He has since grown on me, and I like him paired with Siciliano.) And then, VTB was added to the mix and became a 3rd host, basically. I was UNLISTENABLE. I could not take it. I don't mind the sports updates - because I usually change the station over to 710 - but to have him chime in on every topic. Good Lord. So annoying...

That came about when Pau Gasol first came to the Lakers. He noticed that he would hear "Bartheloa" from
either Pau or some of the folks from Spain, so he quickly adopted that into his schtick. Tired of his
attempts at Spanish (he actually couldn't carry on a conversation at a restaurant beyond his usual
recycled phrases), faux eastern philsophy, and his faux allegiance to whichever team is hot at the moment.
