Victor Sansone Retires

I read that longtime ABC Radio/Atlanta general manager Victor Sansone has "retired."

Early this year, he left Atlanta and became GM at Citadel's (ABC's) Dallas FM stations.

that's 2 former ABC muckety-mucks to leave in the last month, the other being John McConnell, head of the networks.

By the way, Citadel stock is $0.26 today.

That's .000052 cents per every song in the True Olides playlist.

Wonder if he'll be coming back to Atlanta to work for the Norm Schrutt Talent Agency?

it's a sad day for radio to hear such news. no more of his cheapness....no more of 'do this because the guy is a buddy of mine'.....sigh
but on the other side of the coin it was public knowledge that life in texas...as far as radio goes..he was miserable. i'm sure he could fix the station if sh*%del let him.

Hey Mitchell when are you going to be back on the radio?

The gatekeepers are not going to let someone in who has more experience and success than they do and therefore risk being shown up.

Or maybe Clear Channel. Hogan would have to admire a guy like Victor Sansoneshare who was able to completely destroy a successful cluster in Dallas in less than a year!

What is interesting about all this is that in one article I read, he announced his retirement Monday effective that day. I am sure it was known by those inside who need to know but it was surprising that he did not do a farewell turn ala the GM that left Star this year.

Y'know, you can all say all these nasty things about somebody but in reality, they were just doing their job and making tough decisions. It's not easy running a radio station in this, or any other climate. Give Victor what he's earned. He's lasted a long time in a really crappy business and done it successfully. If you were one of the few that he had to cut, fire, (insert appropriate adjective here), and, if Victor is who I believe him to be, that decision was, unless you were a moron, one he agonized over. The guy's human and just because he make a bigger salary than you really doesn't give anyone the right to bash him.

I truly wish him well in his retirement. In my opinion, he's most likely earned it. Oh, if he did say or do something utterly reprehensible, then please continue the bashing...but I'd be very surprized if he did.

Clearly you never worked for him.

Victor:

Is "Surfer" the name you are using on the boards nowadays?

I thought he used the 'no1uno' handle on this board, but hey that's not to say he doesn't have another account with a different user name.
And I'm sure he was up all night every night pondering how to handle HIS radio stations.....but that doesn't excuse him from being a jerk in how he handles people who worked so hard to make him happy (and his party of yes me/arsh kissers that followed him.) Yes, the man did have several years in radio with various success stories....but at the end of the day..I believe we're better off without him.

Sounds like you might have worked for him.

hey Mitchelll, you're right the high brass in radio can't stand to be shown up. I always dreamed of working at WYAY but I guess the man up stairs had other plans.

I wouldn't calling working for him...more like he strung me along with empty promises and I bought it until he cut and ran to Texas. I'm just happy that I don't have to hear him vomit all over the staff during meetings with his empty lies and short mindedness.
