Victoria, Texas changes, upgrade could affect Houston area

Thats how I remember it, but you seem to remember that better that I do.

Actually I rely on several sources for call letter info like that, and your memory is fine. I left out the important point you noted about the format shifting down the dial and I recall thinking at the time that it really did seem like KVIC had moved.

What is the point on building the new KJOJ-FM stick? They don't seem to have much to gain by building it. ???

It would improve reception of 103.3 in Houston metro just enough that Liberman could possibly shuffle formats among its stations. Perhaps moving the La Raza simulcast to 96.9 (providing similar southern fill-in to the current 103.3 facility) and allowing the upgraded 103.3 to run a FM simulcast of KEYH or provide a better FM signal for La Bonita, which currently lacks decent coverage of most of Houston metro.

They have until October 2, 2011 to have the new 2000 foot stick on the air. Have they started building the new tower site yet? This will be a
surprise if they build this new tower site:

A 1,955-ft stick less than 10 miles from the coast? I hope it's hurricane rated.

KFNC's 2,000 foot tower in eastern Chambers County is just slightly less than 10 miles from the coast, and has gone through a few storms since it was built in 2002.

And it covers Houston really well. It should have never been moved from Blanchette Street in Beaumont.
