Victory 92.7 WIJV

How does this station think they can compete against Love 89, Life 88.3 and J-103? They have amazingly poor audio quality and a worse coverage area. They also say they still broadcast on the Knoxville translator at 107.3, but hasn't since June '08. What's up with that? I know this station is owned by Knoxville Christian Center on Cedar Bluff Rd. Surely they could put a little more effort into the signal and audio quality. There are LPFM's out there that sound 10X better (WLHR in Maryville, for example). Wonder if it's just a hobby by a church member, tax write-off, etc? Anyone else have info?

WIJV is not an LPFM. It's the Harriman FM. They paid a boatload of money for it after determining that none of their members were listening to their AM station on 1240. Then they spent another small fortune moving it a little closer and using a very directional antenna system.

That having been said, the FCC won't be happy until every church in America has a radio station to automate in their basement.

It's a Class A with their tower just at I-40 near the Gallaher Rd exit (to Oak Ridge), the signal should be way better in W. Knoxville than it is. Can't imagine anyone with 2 ears listens to 92.7 more than their 1240 since the stereo on 92.7 is panned to the right and there is no audio presence -- tinny, low volume and no bass. That's what I meant by a low-budget LPFM sounds better. Listen to WLNT-LP 96.1 out of Loudon. You could mistake that for a "professional" full-power station. Not that I like the content, just making observatons.

It just kills me everytime I tune past Victory 92.7 and hear them begging for money and then 5 minutes later they run a commercial break. That's how all of these Christian stations thrive. They are double-dipping. They are getting donations and selling airtime.
