VILLAGE 900 LEAVES THE AIRWAVES!

The College Radio Unlimited group on Facebook is reporting that CKMO-AM 900 in British Columbia's capital of Victoria is leaving the terrestrial airwaves to become an internet-only radio station on March 4th. I can't believe that they would do that, depriving radio listeners on the West Coast a unique blend of musical programming and news. Anyone want to weigh in on it? :-[

CKMO is not doing this by choice, the funding is just not there to keep the station on the air anymore. When CKMO 103.1 and Rogers owned CJVI 900 swapped frequencies back in 2000 part of the deal was that Rogers would maintain the transmitting facilities on 900 for 10 years. That agreement has since expired, in fact Rogers even gave CKMO a couple years grace to get things together, but sadly it appears as if another West Coast AM frequency with a ton of history will be going dark on March 4th.

Rogers could at least offer the station on their digital cable box as courtesy. (in with the other radio stations found there.)

Actually, it's Shaw Cable's territory now -- Rogers divested of its BC cable systems several years ago.

That's correct! My mistake! Shaw should still put the station on their digital cable box!

Just Wondering:
Can some (rich) alum_ "invest" / ("donate") a ton of cash,
to keep it on the aire, and in exchange, be humble and thats that -

Or, invest/donate the capital and have a sm.% in programming/direction of the station?

Or is it too late
