Villanova basketball on the radio

Not very happy that tonight's Villanova basketball game aired on 1340 WHAT-AM which has a spanish format. For some reason CBS radio or whoever keeps moving the games to 1340 AM, instead of CBS airing it on one of their stations. WIP-FM, KYW or WOGL would be viable options to air the Villanova basketball and football games if 610 is airing St. Joe's basketball. I wonder will Villanova find a new radio one for their games, once Beasley takes over the 610 AM frequency?
 
None of those stations would be appropriate for 'Nova hoops.
 
CBS isn't going to air any sporting event on KYW, its format is all news all the time. I'd assume that 94.1 had another game airing during that time or that their Sportstalk programming brings in a bigger audience or more importantly more revenue that a Villanova game would. Interestingly 97.5 WPEN didn't jump on the opportunity to air the Villanova game. So maybe my thoughts about lack of ad revenue is justified. WOGL 98.1 is highly rated, they aren't going to put a college basketball game on their strong performing FM music station. When the station in the market declines to air a game they have the rights to, that means another station can pick up that option for that game. So 1340 WHAT jumped on it. I don't believe CBS owns 1340, but probably was a good move for WHAT.
 
I hope that CBS is willing to let 92.5 or 96.5 be back-ups incase there's a conflict with the SJU Hawks games on 610 AM. 1340 AM is not a good option to put the Villanova games on there. CBS has the 2 additional stations, use one of them. Reason why I mention this, WTEL 610 joined the villanova game in progress at 8:44 PM tonight because of SJU Hawks basketball. IMG would be smart to move the villanova games to another station in town, perhaps a FM station, like 106.9 FM as this point and air all of the basketball and football games on ONE station, not a few like it is now.

There is no chance whatsoever of 92.5 or 96.5 being used for college basketball. None. Nor will 106.9.

The arrangement works for the entities involved.
 
Wake up, Julius. I know you enjoy kvetching about CBS and how they have let you down - personally.

However, if you had bothered to check Villanova's website, you would have found out that Villanova's games are on WPEN 97.5 (The Fanatic). I realize that would give you one less thing to complain about and that would make you unhappy, too.

PS: Villanova didn't play the night of your original post. That might have something to do with the game not being on the radio, too.

If Villanova games end up on a station that doesn't come in well (i.e. 1340) or I'm in a building without good reception, I simply use the TuneIn app and stream the game. It's free and comes in crystal clear. They started using it this year and they put both football and basketball games on there. It's listed under the Villanova IMG Network. No need to remember where the game is broadcasting.
