Vin Scully Will Return In 2014

In 1950, Vin Scully joined Red Barber and Connie Desmond in the Brooklyn Dodgers broadcast booth. In 1958, the team---and Scully---moved to Los Angeles. On August 23, 2013, the Dodgers announced that Scully would return in 2014 for his 65th season with the team. Scully still loves being a broadcaster, saying "I really still enjoy it immensely. My health is good, thank God. So why not?" Indeed, why not?

Following Scully's announcement, Sports Illustrated listed six of his most memorable calls:

And in 2011, KTLA-Channel 5 showed clips of five of Scully's legendary calls:

Vin Scully is as legendary as KRTH! (had to say that!) Actually, the very best to him as he's been broadcasting since 1950 for the Dodgers...Absolutely astonishing!!

Dodgers have been playing .800+ ball lately (since 6/22) and I'm sure Vinny is very proud of that accomplishment. Go Dodgers!!

In June the Dodgers were in last place, 9½ games out of first place. Today, August 24, they're in first place and have a 10½-game lead over the Diamondbacks! If the Dodgers hadn't improved so dramatically and were still in last place, I wonder if Scully would still have wanted to return for another season.

Here are some of Scully's memorable quotes and calls, including the transcript of the final inning of Sandy Koufax's perfect game in 1965:

Just to put Vin's career in perspective as to longevity. He started broadcasting Dodgers games 2 years before I was born. I'll be 62 on my next birthday.

Amazing!
