Vince Coakley out at WBT after less than a year

I liked Vince Coakley as a news anchor on Channel 9, so perhaps he could return to one of the TV news stations. But looks like WBT is looking at changing some of their talk show hosts, although they apparently changed their mind on Keith Larson. But I still wish they would carry Neal Boortz show live. I don't always agree with his point of view, but he has an issue oriented and engaging program, and argues his viewpoint very well. He is economically conservative but socially libeterian. For example, he doesn't care for Obama or the Democrats, but he doesn't really care what the homosexuals do. Which was a hot topic in NC recently.

Very happy to hear that Brad Krantz is returning to WBT. He was one of my favorite former hosts there. Hopefully with his cohost Britt, the show will have a bit of a left vs right dynamic to it, as the old Spires and Krantz show did. Too many radio talk shows have a one sided, right wing point of view. Which is why I also enjoy Neal Boortz's conservative but libertarian approach.

I think many of us knew he wouldn’t last but his “on air” performance has improved immensely over the past year. I think someone has been working with the guy.

Vince would do well to take his conservative talents to a Christian radio station.

I wish him the best, because he sounds like a truly “nice guy” with very strong Christian beliefs.

Neal Boortz live would be great, except he is leaving after the campaign season and Herman Cain does a very different type of show (typical partisan). Had Royal Marshall survived, this would have been his show. As for Mr. Coakley, he did improve over time, not unlike Ms. Servatius, but neither of them should have been in that slot in Market #24. They could finally get some stability to the time slot. PS, Isn't Richard Spires still around locally, but not in radio?

I would like to see some station give Robert D. Raiford a talk show again. He was never shy for words. But he is probably somewhat retired now. Does he still do news commentary on the John Boy and Billy show or WRFX?

IMO, Coakley is just another partisan hack and not all that good on the air. But that is par for many of the programs on WBT. Sad to see what this once proud legacy signal has become. Back in the 70s, it was still a great station. But then again, the economics of radio in the 21st Century has done the same thing to many other once great stations, such as KOA, KTRH, KVOO, KOMA, WTAM, and WLS to name just a handful.
