Vintage Airchecks and more discovered..

Got word from my old PD , Jack Hunter, from WHIN 40 years ago, he found some old reels marked Airchecks, and Ballgames..Thinking maybe half a dozen..I went to see them..WOW !! Over 50 in all..Took them to my studio, pulled one at random , marked 1973..and spooled it up on my Teac A-6300..Sounded like it was recorded yesterday !! These had been sitting an a cardboard box in the basement for years...Hoping to pull some un scoped stuff off these...spots, jingles..etc..The tapes are marked with dates 1970 through 1977...This is gonna be fun ;D ;D

Yes will do..but after having one tape break today at a less than decent splice..I'll have to dig out my splicing block and buy some splicing tape..and I suppose a razor blade..lol

Would Scotch (frosted) tape work? I've used it in a pinch. I was running of a reel of station jingles and every splice from leader to tape and tape to leader broke. Any brick and mortar place around Nashville to find splicing tape?

I haven't looked around Nashville yet..did some searching online..WOW splicing blocks around 25.00 or more...I had actually used regular scotch tape on a couple of reels a few years ago to add some leader tape..with no problem...I had the same thing happen to these..the tape separated at the splice..someone put about 1/4 inch tape on the splice..and while it may have held 40 plus years ago...it had dried out sitting in the boxes over the years..Has to be several old blocks gathering dust around most stations I would think...hard to splice an MP3 file...lol

I'll see what I can find here in the 55 Building.

In between the breaking of tapes , I have one 9 minute Air Check I can post...mp3 format 12.9 mb But I don't seem to find an option to post..How is that done here..never attempted this on this site before..thanks..

4 share is a good site.

Nock

Well..if it doo...it may get erased...lol..Not sure what all is here yet..I know a couple of ball games on 7 inch reels...that gets me excited as the spots most likely are imbedded in the broadcast as they live games were taped as they were played and the spots inserted for playback the next morning..hopefully Chris can locate an unused and forgotten splicing block..at popular prices... ;)

so far I've only found two...both attached to reel-to-reel machines...
maybe some leftover fireworks will dislodge one of them

I'm not giving up my block. I'll come down and splice them for you. I'll even supply my own razor blades.

Thanks for the offer..but with over 50 to do..and right now the only time is have free is a couple hours here and there..gonna take me a while to finish this project..besides I'm sure I'll need one again at some point..Just didn't realize how pricy they are..well for me anyway 25.00 is the cheapest I've found thus far...One will pop up somewhere..

Yea I saw those...I want the real thing..lol no telling how many are lying in some back room drawer at stations all over the country untouched in years...lol
