VINTAGE AIRCHECKS

I was blown away by Jeffrey T Mason's post under Nostalgia. Where in God's creation did he ever come up with my old top of the hour show opener and jock jingle from Super KAP in the early 70's I'll never know! Check it out for yourself. He put a link to the audio in his post.

Somewhere in an old box somewhere I have a bunch of old airchecks from my Super K days, and some of the other talent like Chris Bailey, Matt Quinn, Les Baer, Tom Moran, and somewhere I think I have some Al Raber newscasts.

Steve Kelly

Truth be known, Kris Bailey has a whole garage of reel tapes with airchecks and jingles. They're in the garage of the house he used to have with his former spouse. I can't find him, and hopefully, someone can locate him and we can get that stuff copied for posterity. A lot of WKAP stuff...hope it's still around.

the last i heard kris bailey was at the sports monster 1230.i'll ask around about where kris is now.by the way steve kelly!!! i still have a lot of SUPER-K and 13-KAP surveys from 1974 to 1978.would you have any airchecks of chuck morgan???

Re: VINTAGE AIRCHECKS-WEEX

I have a 1970 aircheck of Bill Robbins & Dave "The Baby" Marino on the Big X on a Million-Dollar Weekend.

I have some late 70's early 80's WAEB-AM airchecks. Also some early 80's WLEV. I also have a Werley Christmas show live from his house in 1976...of course, being Werley's kid helps!

Wow! Airchecks! I worked in LV radio for 10 yrs (1970-1980), and I don't have ANY tape of any of that time. I even participated in the Old Timer's Weekend at 99.9 on Sep 9, 1999 (get it), and although I got a set of tapes of that whole weekend, I can't find 'em!

I'd love to hear some old Tom Kelly, Mickey Hagerty, Joey Mitchell, Bill "Get that mike, Joey, I'm outta here!" Robbins, Rick Ryder, Joe Maclaine, etc ,etc, etc.

Re: VINTAGE AIRCHECKS-Steve Kelly

Hi Ho Steverino,

Tis I, J. Robert Taylor (the original) How the heck are you? I may have some Super KAP checks still around. I'll have to see if I can weed through my tons of MiniDiscs. Once I do, I'll dump them to mp3's and make them available. I think they're God Awful, but hey, we all had to be young and stupid sometimes. Remember get our asses chewed for making fun of a Chevy commercial that sounded like Tony Olando/Dawn Tie a Yellow Ribbon?
Tom Moran was so peeved.

J. Robert Taylor ( The Original ) email me dude.

Bob, I probably can help with that. I have some old stuff (still on R2R and cassette, and about a hundred old carts) that I should motivate myself to xfer to digital someday.

I know this thread is pretty old, but I just discovered this goldmine of memories. If anyone is interested in doing a little reminising about LV AM radio in the 70's and 80's I can share some of my good (and not-so-good) recollections. I bet Bob can figure out who I am. :)

Hmmmmm... dva.... I'm guessing initials.... but the insight isn't happening. Do I get a hint?

Ohhh... wait a sec... I got it. I subbed your show one night on WAEB while you were stuck with a broken-down Mustang, I think!

If anyone has any airchecks of Q-100, Hot 99.9 or Laser 104.1, please let me know!!

I'm looking around for more airchecks from those stations.

Thanks!

dva... let me know if you ever get any of those old tapes/carts/wax drums/wire recordings out of storage. As I've posted here before... after 10 yrs on the air here in the LV... I don't have a single solitary second of "me"! Not that my talents warranted a lot of recording time, but I'm guessing there has to be a little of me somewhere. Let me know!

Wow... this is certainly bringing back memories. Found this by googling around. I spent about 5 years doing radio in the Lehigh Valley from late 70's into the early 80's. I started at WKAP playing the hits on the weekends, then graduated to overnites. From there, a stint doing the evening show on WSAN, the 'album station'. Then over to WEEX for a variety of shifts, mostly overnights, but i did morning drive for a while too. Eventually got out of radio full time, but worked part time at WLEV/WEST for about a year, doing weekends and fill-ins.

I'm seeing a lot of familiar names here! Heck, when i lost the gig at WKAP on overnites, the guy that followed me in was Sam Lit. I worked with Bob Farrow at WEEX for a number of years.

Good to see the names here!
