Vintage Cable TV in Stockton California

Cable TV first came to Stockton, California in Fall 1973. It had a "A/B" switch and utilized the VHF band (2-13). Example 2A:Reserved for KMUV-31 Sacramento(went on air Oct. 1974) , 2B:KTVU-2 Oakland, 3A:KLOC-19 Modesto, 3B: KEMO-20 San Francisco, 4A:KTXL-40 Sacramento, 4B:KBHK-44 San Francisco,etc...... Essentially Cable TV in the early days was an extended TV Antenna. Since we lived in the valley, we recieved both Sacramento and San Francisco Bay Area TV Stations. Satellite TV Channels didn't come into Stockton until 1978, with Home Box Office first then in 1979 both Nickelodeon and ESPN debuted here with "ARTS" in 1980(later to become A&E), CBS Cable(A performing Arts channel Channel defunct by 1982)in 1981, Both MTV and USA Network by 1982 and CNN in 1983,etc. Our Cable TV company was called Big Valley Cablevision in 1973, then Continental Cablevision in 1981 then Media One in 1997 then ATT Broadband in 2000 and I think it was Comcast by 2002 or 2003.

More accurately, it went defunct "by 1983" ... it lasted almost the entire year of 1982, going off the air on December 17 of that year.

I posted the last week of their schedule some time ago, at <a target="_blank" href=http://www.radio-info.com/mods/board.php?Post=267402&Board=tv-classic>http://www.radio-info.com/mods/board.php?Post=267402&Board=tv-classic</a>.<P ID="signature">______________
