Vintage gear - Delta cart machine...

Well... I'm having a small issue with one of the single machines. Stopping after FF, the motor slows down like in idle mode, ie, slowing by itself, taking about 5 seconds to reach standard speed, while other machines take just one second. FF is far beyond the 3X normal speed, but the cue tones are respected. I swapped the motor control board, using an "healthy" one and the problem remains. Any hints?... It's a Papst DC motor... Hints?... Tia...

Yep.

May not have anything to do with the motor issues--but, since it is a dc motor, high ripple into the control circuit might confuse it.

If it doesn't cure it, then back to suspect motor. Which is probably not worth trying to replace, although it may be a bearing issue (unlikely though), which might be fixable.

These machines are sitting around in closets, easier repair is to get a bunch for spare parts.

The machines are very low mileage (no grooves at all on the aluminium deck, no worn heads). Odd to have 3 out of 6 with issues. One was the PB head that induced hiss on tape playback (fixed by swapping head from a good one), other was a non parallel capstan that induced flutter (machine used for spares, sealed motor damaged by me). The 3rd with a "braking" problem. I'll swap the motor ;)
