Vintage SJ Newsletters

spiritof67 said:
Last week I uploaded some of the newsletters I received from various NAC/SJ stations. Today I uploaded 4 "Musicletters" from KTWV (January-April 1990), and two "Breezes" from the Breeze Network (March-April and May-June 1990). I also changed the locations of the folders for these files. The main folder can now be found here:

Thank you for posting these. I have never seen them before, they are very good. Thank you for all the uploads. :)

Jazz Kat, I'm glad you're enjoying these. It's my pleasure to post them.

This week I have uploaded all of the remaining "Breezes" newsletters I have. These two recent additions were from September/October and November/December 1990. In early 1991, the network folded. These can be found in this folder: http://www.4shared.com/dir/5Zom9tI-/02-1990.html

Besides the newsletters, I also uploaded four other documents I have from that network. One was a typed list of the "Top 88" CD's from 1988, two lists of affiliates--one for the network itself, and the others that carried their weekend program only. The other document was a top 25 playlist from 23 April 1990. That folder is here: http://www.4shared.com/dir/VkWEvTLu/03-Playlists_And_Affiliate_Lis.html

As for KTWV, all 12 months of the 1990 KTWV Musicletters are now available, and found here: http://www.4shared.com/dir/Qmwp0ftC/02-1990.html

More are on the way, and the overall newsletter folder is here: http://www.4shared.com/dir/PVzoS2sQ/Newsletters.html

GREAT stuff spirit, really! I know this is a lot of work but much appreciated. Loving the 1988 Smith Corona-generated list ;D. Talk about a memory buster. Hard to argue with their top choices--my darkhorse favorite from that year was Checkfield's "Through The Lens" at #9 (note that Kenny G's "Silhouette" was #25...I guess Mr Smooth was just a baby then and only a 150-pound gorilla :D). Chi's "Pacific Rim" at #74 is a hard-to-find gem. One glaring omission/oversight for me: May Groove's "Midnight Rain." Pretty sure that was released in 1988, but maybe is slipped into 1989.

I was looking at some of the "new" artist from these newsletters. I feel so deprived (since I was a toddler at the time they were playing this) compared to what we have now. Really why can't we find good music like this anymore.

I have a bunch of old MAC Reports from late 80s and Early 90s stashed somewhere in the attic, the amount of interactivity in the radio community, the sheer volume of programmers and different perspectives and the diversity of the music back then was so amazing. How did we end up filtering all of that down till there was just one person controlling a bunch of stations that played about 10 artists? uh..Telcom Act :(

I recently found some RnR NAC charts from 1995-It totally blew my mind when I saw who was on it and the songs that were played. very cool-fresh and not many restrictions. I want to give a huge cynical thank you to BA for F..king the whole thing up.If it's not broke don't fix it. Chasing the dollar has never been a formula for success

This week I have uploaded KTWV's Musicletters from the first four months of 1991: http://www.4shared.com/dir/7bME37e9/03-1991.html

I am also posting the first issue I received of "Smooth Times," the quarterly newsletter from WNUA. The station mailed me some of their publications from 1991 and 1992:

For those who were around in the early days of the format, how many other stations printed these newsletters? And Another Cat and Producer 57, if you get the time to scan the documents you have, I'd like to see those as well.
