Vintage Y100 Sign On From 8/3/73 (Unscoped)

I never knew (or have since forgotten) that Roby was the first to do the morning show on Y-100.

As I was listening, this reminded me how Roby's life certainly had ups and downs and the downs were more the norm. I'm sure when Roby was chosen to go to the Big Apple and WABC - then the most listened to station in the nation and the #1 market - he must have been on Cloud 9. And I'm sure those on the air in S Fla at the time wished it could have been them instead.

But in this case, not making the grade at WABC was something that must have hung over Roby like some dark cloud through his career. I suppose some get stronger with challenges and others get consumed by it. I don't know the details of Roby's hiring at Y-100 and whether he was to be a permanent or interim host. But the bottom line is he was quickly out and Tanner was in. And that move among other things really put Y-100 on the map.

I guess the soft side of me was thinking how Roby must have felt to see the unbelievable success Y-100 was enjoying and no contest Bill Tanner had the best produced morning show in S Fla - period.

Thanks for bringing this unscoped gem to us to hear. Didn't mean to get so dark but in some ways, it was kind of sad to hear but that's a part of the reality of radio too - for many, it wasn't an easy career choice....
