Vinyl Radio Compilations Web Site

Howdy all - Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. I'm a former news radio chick who did time in Colorado and Texas (1982-1997). In my spare time I add stash to my ever-growing record collection, and design Web sites. So one day I was thinking what my next hobby project should be, and it kinda dawned on me, after looking through my own record collection - how about a site dedicated to radio station compilations? So here it is:

http://www.radiouseonly.com

It's only a few months old, and is still a work in progress, but I would love to know what everyone thinks. I'm adding new LPs every weekend (20 more planned for Saturday). If you have any of these gems, please let me know. I would love to include them on the site. Thanks in advance!

Thanks! I update the site every weekend. Here's what I added today:

California
Los Angeles - KRLA Strikes Again 3
San Francisco KYA Reggae
XETRA 91X (San Diego via Mexico)

Illinois
Chicago WCFL Summer Gold (added DJ pictures)

Michigan
Detroit WWWW (first vinyl appearance of The Romantics - 1977)

I'm impressed! I have several of the albums you display on your site including one you didn't. A Bill Ballance (California) disc of some of his funniest calls from his show. It was a KGBS disc but I have the second cover where KGBS is not so prominently featured as the station flipped calls and format shortly after its release (or so I'm told). Anyway, your site looks awesome. Keep up the great work. ;D

Hey all - Well the last update of 2006
So far, 246 albums from 34 states (and Washington D.C.)

I have also decided to offer my duplicates for sale or trade. I've stopped counting how many emails I have received asking me to
sell or trade parts of my stash. Since I've put together a healthy pile of duplicates, I'm going to offer them up to anyone who would like to buy or trade (you
can find them on the "for sale" link).

Coming up in 2007: Mexico, Canadian and Australian radio compilations.
Plus radio station 45s (no, not the white label promo kind).

Have a great 2007!

Are you the same Lisa Wheeler who writes for Goldmine?

Lisa_Wheeler said:
Yeah, I wrote for Goldmine in the 80's and until last year... http://www.isleofwrite.com

Enjoyed your articles about the guy collecting everything on Olivia Newton-John and the girl with the Christmas album collection. That one made me realize I wasn't the only "uber-collector" when it comes to Christmas music. Good stuff!

Hey all! Well, 2007 was a wild and crazy year. Lots of comps added to the site, for the last update of the year (see below) - including 12 new LPs for California, and eight in Texas, alone.

Plus South Dakota makes its debut with an LP I recently found from KILI Radio in Porcupine, SD.

2008 will bring a new section to the site - radio station 45s (no, not the white label promo kind--haha). We're talking PAMS "My Hometown" discs, Budweiser Showdown contest singles, various comedy recordings, and "Sounds of the City" type 45s. Pretty much anything with radio station call letters on the label. If you have anything like that, please let me know.

Thanks to one and all for your support.

Lisa

WYSF - 95 Rock

95-ROCK in Montgomery was used by WLSQ-AM 950 during its album rock era (1980-87). Hardly any ratings to speak of, the audio quality was terrible, but otherwise it was very well-programmed.

WYSF is in Birmingham (the old WAPI-FM, which - ironically - called itself 95-ROCK in its early '80s AOR days).

What's on this album? I'd like to hear it .... go to www.birminghamrewound.com/DSRA , if you're interested in a trade.

Nice cover.

The call letters for 95-ROCK were WLSQ. In the '60s through the mid '70s, 950 was black station WRMA.

Hey all -

Have an update on the blog (finally) - an interview from Bob Rall, a former jock and PD over at WJXN in
Jackson, Mississippi, who in 1961 wrote the lyrics for his station's "My Home Town" PAMS 45.
Check it out: http://radiouseonly.blogspot.com/

Found all of the Ian Matthews radio station picture discs - at least I think I have - added those as well.

I'm so diggin' on the Alaska addition - very "homemade" looking LP - looks like it was slapped
together with a folded piece of cardboard, stuffed with all kinds of goodies.

Love that WMYQ - Miami "ecology" LP - boy does that symbol bring back memories of my "earth muffin" years.

Found a copy of a KLOS album at a thrift store in Pueblo Colorado. Did a double take, 'cause this KLOS is NOT the
KLOS of California fame - but instead out of NEW MEXICO - very cool find.

I'm really excited to have found another KFJZ (Fort Worth) LP - since I grew up with Mark Stevens and L. Shannon, from my
junior high days in Cowtown.

Speaking of Texas, I found a most excellent piece of radio LP history with that WBAP record find - comes with a
music and lyric book, so you can sing and play along to your favorite country songs.
