Virgin Boy replaced by...College Football??? on RKO

I listened to Ed Schultz all day. An obnoxious commercial made me switch to WRKO (usually it is the Randi Rhodes intro that makes me switch till she hits the airwaves, like 20 minutes into her show)

What the heck is College Football doing on 680 AM???

http://wrko.com/programming.asp

I think the games were moved to WRKO last season. I thought I heard them on 680 even after the Sox season ended.

Sports Radio 680, WRKO. get used to it; Celts, '07 Sox (though some Sox games will be on 'EEI next
year: afternoon weekday games--rare, and Friday nights).
Yes I spotted in yesterday's paper that BC football would start at 6 pm on WRKO. It actually started with the pregame at 5:30 pm...VB told listeners to go to the website to hear the rest of the show.
But there's also WCRN 830 out of Worcester for Howie.

If Entercom feels the 680 signal is better, why not go all out:
WEEI 680: Sox, Celtics, and sports talk
WRKO 850: DePetro, Rush, Howie et al

If the ratings for WMKK weren't half decent, it could be:
WRKO-FM 93.7 "FM Talk"--and anything from oldies to Air America to ethnic would be on 'RKO.
Yeah, far fetched, but a few weeks ago would you have believed WILD-FM would be gone?

>>BC football

(song parody, in light of the gambling scandal a few years back.
to tune of BC fight song:
For Boston, For BOSTON
College football, bet on games
Say, what's the over-under tomorrow
When we're playing Notre Dame?)

Just a question but if the ratings are as bad as I've heard reported for Air America, why anyone want them on a 50,000 watt station like WRKO?

It would at least quiet the Air America fans who are complaining, "We can't pick it up because it's on a weak signal!" WRKO would pick it up for a half year or so, tank in the ratings, and tell everyone, "Well, we tried..."
Would it succeed? I'd doubt it but who knows. What I meant was that if Ent. were to move 'RKO to
FM (and yes, 93.7 doesn't cover everywhere), they might decide to go low-expense radio on the AM.

And again this prob. wouldn't happen anyway. Just foolin' around a bit here.
(How about: "WRKO, en espanol. Para ingles, press 'dos'..."

I'm guessing it's not about signal strength, it's about billing. EEI's talk line-up is already generating ad sales.
By shifting the Sox to RKO they can make advertisers buy spots in other, lower-rated day-parts in order to get on the Sox-cast.

Yeah, all two of them.

Meanwhile, I just read that AA is back in financial trouble and not paying AP for their news.

Which is worse--- college football or Virgin Boy.

V.B. has no brains.

:p
