What is funny is that a year ago on this board Bill Virgin's columns were regularly criticized for including reports such as what would be heard on Music with Moscowitz. It was suggested after a while that he was avoiding "the Moscowitz report" in his columns, perhaps because of what was being stated on this board. Well, now that the madman is gone, no small amount of tribute has been paid to his show, and perhaps Bill Virgin was right about giving that show needed attention.

Bill Virgin is a fine writer for the P-I, and local radio is lucky to have him. I am surprised a local show has not tried to access an on air piece with him. Maybe someone has tried to access his services and he has declined to participate. I dunno. Anyway, thanks for the piece Bill.

As for comedy pieces, I think he could have included Ricker on KISW. There will always be a place for short spurts of talent within the confines of a music program, and Ricker does it well for his demographic.

The problem was is that he never covered anything interesting in local radio. Half of the column is taken up with niche-marketed-6am-on-Sunday "programming announcements". His non-radio columns are often very good. Having said that, this is a good, insightful column this week.

Radio is funny. I laugh every day at the comedy channels, Howard Stern, Jay Thomas, Red Peters (who has a Dr. Demento type of show, but R-Rated) all on Sirius Satellite Radio. It really is too bad that there isn't programming like that on terrestrial radio anymore.
