It is with profound sadness that we note the passing of Virginia Bennett this past Friday. Mrs. Bennett was 88 and was truly a radio broadcasting pioneer. She was the first woman general manager of a radio station in the state of Ohio, and later founded a Dayton advertising and talent agency which she ran for over 40 years. She was inducted into the Dayton Area Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2005. The Bennett family is legendary in the Dayton-Springfield area. Her husband Jim was also a station manager and advertising executive for many years and remains active in advertising to this day, and her son Jeff is currently Chief Engineer at the Dayton Clear Channel cluster. She was a marvelous person to know and work with, extremely intelligent, with a marvelous sense of humor and a smile for everyone. She was a giant in our industry and will truly be missed. My condolances to her family.

The Bennett family has given a great deal to Dayton area radio listeners and advertisers. Their efforts, and the stations they ran are still legends in the minds of many of us "kids from the 60's and 70's." Jeff, too...is a great guy and a fine engineer.

I owe my first trip inside a radio station to Jim Bennett, who offered to take my parents and me thru the WING studios downtown on my 10th birthday in 1967...all due to a chance meeting between my father and Jim in a downtown coffeeshop. Mrs. Bennett (whom I've had the chance to run into here and there over the years), was a fine broadcaster and manager, and will certainly be missed.

I send my condolences to the family, and wish them well....

My sympathies and prayers to the Bennett family at this time. It was the Bennetts that kept Great Trails solid throughout the 60s and 70s. Wish I was fortunate enough to know Virginia and Jim and got to see WING's studio on West First Street and meet the airstaff.

Virginia Bennett was an impressive radio pinoneer and an even greater Grandmother. Thankyou for your thoughts and prayers.
