Virgin's RADIO-BEAT / 7-27-06

You know I've listened a little more to the End lately and have noticed some changes. That lame voice guy who worked with the old morning show is gone. The imaging sounds a bit edgier and the "active rock" type music like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park have been dropped. The shuffle weekends were awesome because they focused on the songs that made the station successful instead of having alot of new music in heavy rotation. Anybody notice any other changes? Is this enough to get this station heading in the right direction like the other Entercom stations or do more changes need to be made? Or is the alternative format just not what it used to be? As you look around the country, it's hard to find many that are doing that great.

I think The End could use a new morning show, Adam Corrola doesn't do anything for me. Who could they get? I don't know. I just think that they need to rebuild the entire air staff starting with a new local morning show.

I've read that Carolla is struggling in LA and a few other markets although I have no idea how he's doing up here in Seattle. From what Lazlo said in Virgin's article, he likes Carolla's show and he's sticking with it. As for other dayparts, I think Dick Rossetti is an awesome jock when they allow him to be creative. Harms just doesn't do it for me and Jim Keller seems like he was forced into taking the midday spot and looks forward to the day he can get off the air full-time and just go back to that Sunday show he does.

That sums it up right there...a year and half ago or so The End was kickin the crap out K-Rock, they had a local AM show and it was ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC. With their success of taking down the threat of K-ROCK there is no reason for them to be so agressive. NO more TV , no billboards, no heavy marketing as the dollars have been allocated elsewhere in the cluster I would think.... The End and the brain trust there have always been winners and when it came to competition that's when they kicked it into high gear. When they were faced with another station going after them they worked the competiton over like a w.hore on dollar day just pounding them. The loss of local identifiable talent that starts with AM drive and filters down to other day parts is something I feel has not helped them as of late. They had great local talent that folks could identify - From Andy, to Kim, Bill, No Name, etc.......again it starts with the AM show and sorry but Adam aint the answer...was great on The Man Show, Crank Yankers but that does not = radio success...sorry. Look at what BJ has done on 99.9 - Staying local and keeping it here in the PN-Dub makes the most sence. The End is and always will be Seattle's Altnernative Radio.......END of story.

Yeah I said the same thing about 2 months ago. Glad others think the same way !

Just wondering, since his wife will be hosting a morning drive show from Seattle for her employer in Kansas City, what other examples are there of this kind of relationship? ??? Years ago, when Tom Leykis started his program he was not heard in Los Angeles but created his program from there. This is somewhat different: A show for Kansas City that is broadcast for that market only, not a nationally syndicated show, and the broadcast originates from 1900 miles away or so. Could she swing this as a local KC show?

Bean from Kevin and Bean on KROQ in LA broadcasts from his home studio here in Seattle.

Lots of folks have done this. Get an ISDN line and some gear and you too can broadcast from your house 1400 miles out of market and pretend to be local and part of the community ! I'd like to see these folks out there at events, working with local charities and making impact and contact in the market.

Bean actually lives on Vashon Island. He's lucky he got an ISDN line where he lives out on his little farm. I hope he runs his equipment on a UPS.

Good talent/team can work from anywhere. They just have to be on top of there continuity and content, which most good talent are.
