I was watching the dogs at my neighbors flat and they have two TVs. Both have cable, but I wanted to test out the reception of DTV at their house. I live in Chicago (as do they) and with a silver sensor they get all channels (except WJYS and WYIN) with WBBM (Channel 12) kind of breaking up.
Anyway, here's my question.
I tested the OTA channels and I found an interesting thing on both sets. One is an RCA set and the other is Magnavox.
WLS-TV which has a primary station on Channel 44 and a translator on Channel 7.
WSNS is on Channel 45 with a virtual channel on 44.
But here is what's happening.
On both sets, I get WLS on Channel 7 (it breaks up) and on Channel 44.
This means that WSNS is appearing on channel 45, not it's virtual channel of channel 44.
I am assuming this is a TV tuner thing right? On these TVs the tuners can only have one channel, correct?
I thought it was interesting 'cause if you tune in say, WCIU, which is on Channel 27 it automatically goes to Channel 26, (its former analog channel). If you tune to WMAQ on channel 29 it automatically goes to channel 5 (it's former analog channel)
But if you tune to channel 44, it stays on WLS-TV it doesn't go to channel 7. I am assuming it doesn't do this as WLS runs a translator on channel 7.
I hope this makes sense.
My question is this, is this a TV tuner thing as opposed to a way the TV stations are setting up their virutal channels?
