VIVA format back on air

Davis Broadcasting flips the 100.1FM signal to a Viva Spansish Pop format ending the simulcast of LaRaza. Signal is still suspect and reaching the metro north only.

Stupid move, most of the Hispanics want the regional mexican format.

First, those Hispanics not from Mexico likely don't enjoy regional Mexican. Second, not all Mexicans like regional Mexican music. So there is a definite audience for a pop /AC type station. The issue here is not appeal, but coverage.

The Atlanta Market is 65% Mexican and hence why most of the stations are Regional Mexican. Not all Mexicans like regional mexican and the other 35% certainly don't! There is room for a Spanish pop station with a decent signal--this is not it. The audience in the very north of the metro are not enough for viable station. If they can improve the signal it could have some impact but you can not even pick up the station in Marietta!

I'm not sure I understand Davis Broadcasting's thinking here. 102.3 and 100.1 really don't duplicate coverage. If they did, this would make more sense. 100.1 gets into the Dalton area, which I would think would be heavily Mexican.

I don’t really know much about this subject. All I know about non English radio is I can’t understand a word. I would like to follow this tread living in the city grade of 100.1 and missing Sunny 100, so I am going to ask an ignorant question, so please don’t get mad. Is VIVA a format or a programming service like (JACK only in Spanish)? I have come to accept as long as Davis owns 100.1 the “Sunny” won’t shine.

100.1 does have some overlap with Patron--not much. Maybe Davis sees a niche he can move 100.1 into with the demise of Viva. But that's going to require a second airstaff.

I really don't understand it either.

Would Davis be interested in buying WAZX-FM and simuling something on that?

There will not be much of a need for a second on airstaff outside of mornings as they wil be music intensive. Premiering Monday morning will be the Yogi in the Morning Show 2.0. For PM drive they wil just VT La Raza's popular mid-day host Jordania Gris. On Viva she will be known as Katiana Morales.

I haer they are already poking fun of this on the Hispanic board. It is ridiculous when you think of it VT'ing a popular host on one station on a different station in the same market but have her usa a different name. Leave to the Davis.

I'm sorry people but sometimes these things just write themselves.

Classic. Do you think Morales and Gris will get along better than their Anglo counterparts?

How will this affect Q Cien?

Ive got to tell you. This has to be the longest-running joke in history. And it's still funny!

They will fight more than their anglo counterparts. Latinas are fiery. That's what makes them so hot.

Roddy - It really is the gift that keeps on giving.
