Viva Gets OWN-ed March 1

Corus Entertainment has announced that March 1, 2011 is the launch date of the Canadian version of OWN, Oprah's new cable channel:

http://www.corusent.com/home/Corporate/PressReleases/tabid/1697/Default.aspx?Id=2023

The company will be relaunching VIVA to bring OWN to Canada. For January and February, selected OWN programming will air on both VIVA and sister cablenet W. This will be the second relaunch for the channel, which originally started out as Canadian Learning Television in 1996, adapting its current name and format 2 years ago.

So OWN is a channel that targets women...?

SHAW/Corus seems to be very serious about targeting Women, at least with some of their specialty channels anyway.

To strengthen that point, a few years ago they bought SEX TV from CTV. (which naturally had a strong following of men)
They immediately relaunched SexTV as "W movies".
("W" is the sister station, targeting women)

I do have to wonder, Since Shaw/Corus bought Global TV, does that mean Global TV will also target women?

Then there's Showcase. When the station originally launched there were several late night movies with nudity etc
Then Global ended up with the channel and all the nudity was eliminated, but the station seemed to be targeting a general audience.

It makes me wonder what will also become of Showcase in the near future...

Of course, if you want to see nudity (and more than that), you could go up the dial to the porno flicks on M-XS or the weekend latenight softcore telenovelas on TLN ;D

Not that I watch that stuff, but for those that seem to know, weren't the baby blue movies on sex tv better than the content found on late night TLN programming? ???

And speaking of TLN...
Is is just me, or is TLN's VO guy heard as much (or more) on OMNI TV than on his home network? :D
