VNC/Windows 7

Is anyone using VNC with Windows 7 clients? I have used UltraVNC for years and love the program, but I have all kinds of lockup issues when I connect to Win 7 hosts. This is going to become more and more of a problem for me, as I transition Audiovault and other systems to 7.

Does anyone have a reliable option? I don't want to use RDP, because a user would have to log back in after the session to get the local monitor back.

I'm using Tight VNC latest version with Windows 7 and it works great.

Thanks... I looked at that one earlier when I was googling. I am going to give it a shot tomorrow and see if my problems go away.

You might also take a look at TeamViewer. Apart from being able to see what is client doing and helping them out, one cool thing about it is that it allows recording as well...

Like Goran said Teamviewer is nice and you are able to view along with someone using the pc if you want to assist. But if you're looking for remote control as an administrator why use 3rd party software while there's already Remote Desktop capability in Windows since XP? I use it all the time.

Radmin I one that I have used for years - Only the server is "paid for" as the viewer is free, so you only need to pay for the terminals you need remote control on. It also offers chat, file transfer and dual-screen view.

Missed that part, my bad. Than I would check out Teamviewer rather than VNC. From a security standpoint I shiver when hearing VNC.

I use oddball ports and very complex passwords. I used to worry about it too, but I have had no 'intrusions' in my 5 years of using UVNC.

Using Ultra...no problems, but nothing on a naked Internet connection. I access company servers thru a VPN tunnel.

We have TightVNC but it's not available directly, only via VPN or SSH tunnel. Some other VNC systems as well as NX Server/Client will encrypt the traffic. NX does a great job on compression too, but the server is only for Linux machines.

I use LogMeIn free for my remote access. Avoids local firewall issues, odd ports, etc. It's similar to TeamViewer in that the machines log into the LMI secure server, and they're accessible on any browser, as long as you know the account holder's U/N and P/W. You can even give other authorized users a shortcut to specific machines so they don't have to know the admin's credentials. www.logmein.com. For an easy VPN, look at LogMeIn Hamachi2. $99/yr, almost unlimited users.

Hey guys... Just wanted to let you know that I ended up using Windows Live Mesh to sync my data folders, as well as add remote connections. It is different from RDP in some ways. No ports to forward and works through the internet anywhere with your windows login credentials within Internet Explorer (only).

It solved all my problems and syncs my data folder to boot. Highly recommend it if you have not played with it. 5 GB of free cloud storage as well.
