VOCR 740 any info on this one?

Tonight on the drive home to NH from Boston I was listening to big band and crooners Sunday on WJIB and as I usually do....stayed on 740 when CHWO won out. Crossing into NH CHWO faded and what a surprise..... clearly heard an announcer say VOCR.

I have to assume it is located somewhere in Newfoundland or Labrador, I have always been familiar with VOAM on 590 and VOCM-FM and VOWR all in St. John
and VOAR in Mt. Pearl but VOCR on 740 is a new one on me.

Any info on this one would be appreciated.

Hi..

I think you had CHCM-740 out of Marysville, NF. They are part of a chain of stations that rebroadcast VOCM (Voice of the Common Man) from St. John's.

CHCM is 10,000 watts day and night, directional at night with a significant null to the West (Toronto), with an equivalent of about 50 watts in the null. Maybe they were operating non-directional when you heard them.

Nice catch!!! Marysville is in Southern New Foundland, about 840 miles from Boston.
