VOICE GUY ON WSAR

The official Voiceover Guy on WSAR is very professional sounding. He's got a major market sound. Definitely worth the big bucks he could probably make elsewhere.

#1. How can WSAR afford him? I wonder what they pay him.

#2. I think he should work in a major market where he can pull in a lot more money than he can make in Fall River.

Dunno who it is, so this is just speculation.

More than one voiceover guy who has retired from the day-to-day grind and doesn't need a lot of money but wants to play at radio.

Very amusing when your stuff appears in a market where you've never worked and everybody starts trying to guess who it is.....

Well I could email Keri and ask who it is, but she's not great at returning emails unless you make her mad first. ;D

voice guys price themselves based on market size. If he gets a Boston or Providence station, then he'd say bye to fall river.

He should easily be able to get into a bigger market. He sounds like Paul Turner. Paul has done work for CNN, Howard Stern and a ton of other markets too. WSAR's voice guy has that some type of voice. So for all I know maybe he's not even local. He's probably in some studio in Montana.

I know that WSAR's PD Keri Rodriquez comes here. So I have no idea why she doesn't chime in. Radio people will read this forum but they are always afraid to post here. I find that funny.

if i remember correctly, he's the san diego padres p.a. announcer. does a ton of radio voice over work across the country for cheap.

Ah-HA! The San Diego Padres PA Announcer. Thank you. It was so easy to respond but yet to difficult for the actual PD who comes here and probaby saw this thread 20 times. LOL. I really have to wonder sometimes. The brain is an amazing thing. Thanks again for your help.

SkyNet... seems to me like you created a thread with the hopes of getting to slam Keri R. in it. Posing a question about a radio station and then getting pissed when the PD doesn't respond to the post? You're losing it my friend.

Reread Skynets posts Keri, opps, I mean StacysMom.
He's FOOLING around. Geez! ::) ::)

Let me put it this way. I asked an honest question with the intention of getting an honest answer. I don't care where the answer came from. I just wanted to know who the guy was. If you'll look at how I started this thread, I did nothing but praise WSAR's choice in an announcer. How "Staceysmom" somehow turns that into a slam at Keri Rodriquez.... I may never know.

The only thing I don't understand is why a person who "KNOWS THE ANSWER" is so unwilling to help when they repeatedly see the question. When a person purposely chooses to be unhelpful, that says a lot about who they really are.

Skynet... In saying you think he should work in a bigger market, you're proving that you don't know a whole heck of a lot about radio. Do you actually think voiceover talent is exclusive to one station? Do you realize that a good vo guy can work 20+ stations coast to coast at any given time? Do you know that rates are based on MARKET SIZE? Do you know many vo's are know working on barter?

Yes I know all that. However I did not originally think WSAR would be looking elsewhere for voice talent. I know a few things about that station. I used to work there, but I chose to leave when I saw that the local Burger King paid more. Trying to get a raise out of WSAR is like pulling teeth. Half the staff was lied to about various things and we all chose to pretty much leave at once. That's not Keri's fault since she was still learning how to count at the time. But 20 years later I know that the station still struggles for money based on what Keri has told me.

They are cheap and have next to no budget. Keri emailed me a couple years back that they were looking for voice talent, but she did not have the budget to hire me. When I recently brought up the problem with WSAR's website Keri mentioned that she was looking into streaming but couldn't afford to do it. It's no secret that WSAR has never been a BIG Money Maker. So with that knowledge I assumed that they would not be looking outside the area for ANYBODY. Typically the station will try to hire local people who generally cost less. In the past if you were employed by WSAR that was typically the ONLY place you worked. The station did not have the bucks to go looking all over the country for staff.

With that said...... I am surprised that their official VOICE guy is NOT Local. That is why I worded my original post like I did. Glad to clear it up for you.

Glad you did as well... I'll tell you this though... I used to program a station somewhere up in the 130's and had an operating budget which probably was only slightly better than that of WSAR. I've found when a cheap voice is needed with major market sound, the WORST place to look is your own back yard. First of all, while searching for a new imaging voice I found that lots of the big nation voice guys love taking a charity case or two. Second, barter, as I mentioned in my last post has become a great way of making great talent affordable. Lastly, SO MANY PEOPLE are talented now and have their services out there that they trip on each other to get the work sometimes. The amount of e-mail I get somedays from vo's trying to find work is amazing. They're out there, they're talented, unknown, and hungry... literally. Good conversation Skynet!

Skynet... you seem like a good guy... but I listened to your demo - and I don't think lack of funding at WSAR is the reason they didn't go with you to voice the station.

LOL.... and you make remarks about how I criticize Keri? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. lmao. Well I'll humor you. Let's say that you are correct. That would mean you are calling Keri a liar. So I think you two should get together and work it out over lunch. Please let us know what happens. LOL

PS. StaceysMom, while you are having lunch with Keri please do me a favor. Try to clear up all this talk about Keri and her ratings. She seems rather impressed with herself regarding the latest numbers. Check out her Blog entry to see what people have to say. I know that we have some very knowledgable people in the radio industry here. What do you make out of all this? Click the link and let us know.

Man, you are agitated lately. It's time to ask why you would think Keri would respond to you on a public message board considering what your response to her might be. She doesn't respond for the same reason my neighbor's cat likes to sit in the window & watch the cars go by but doesn't go outside to play in traffic.
