Voice in the Wilderness

While WBEN, the market's only commercial news-talk outlet WBEN, yammers on with right wing talk, conspiracy theories and a morning news anchor who argues the existence of the Old Testament and asks "so, who invented DNA?" there are two stations that consistently provide programming of value and substance. Thank you WNED-AM, WBFO-FM and NPR.

Conspiracy Theory

DNA? Wasn't that invented back in the '30s during the Roosevelt administration? I think it stands for "Democratic National Archive". They store information about everybody. I heard about it on WBEN.

Dittos on "Thank you WNED-AM, WBFO-FM and NPR."

News people are allowed to talk about The Old Testament on the air these days? I yearn for the old days of 20-20 news on the old WYSL - I especially miss the teletype sfx in the background("Governor Rockefeller announced another tax hike today and predicted New York's economy will continue to prosper well into the 21st century. Locally, Mayor Frank Sedita had another heart attack.")

Just wait and see what happens if one of the Democratic candidates, especially Hillary, is elected president next year. These right-wing stations and programs will have a field-day blasting the "liberals."
I agree that NPR provides some excellent programs. What is unfortunate is that public radio does not pay their local personnel what they deserve. What's the average pay scale at WNED, WBFO and WXXI? Around the low to mid 30s or low 40s perhaps (depending on how long a person has worked there?) Compare that to some morning hosts on commercial stations that are pulling down big bucks, and for what; making idiots out of themselves or laughing at lame jokes? Also when you compare local news on public versus commercial radio there is no doubt that public radio does a far superior job. At least public stations don't cover every homicide, vacent house fire, or stabbing. Yet while people offer kudos to public radio, few of them step up to the plate and support public radio during pledge drives.

Maybe it's because somebody keeps telling people how their money really goes to support the lavish lifestyles of the big bosses in public broadcasting.

My goodness, who would post messages like that? ;D
But you know the old saying "the truth hurts."
