Voice tracking question

How come guys Vt'ed in from other cities like Chris Randolph on Mix and JT on Q seem to have this generic announcer voice while syndicated people like Tom Kent and Casey Kasem have distinctive voices.

hum... so they can pay generic salaries ???

Because that's all that's left at the stations.....generic [and sometimes geriatric] sounding Djs playing generic sounding music with generic sounding jingles & IDs. It all has to sound the same because one DJ doing 30 stations around the country means he can't "personalize" anything [i.e.: make a comment about something local, give local time or temp, even talk about local politicians or business']. I did hear one of the overnight VT "personality" that does a local afternoon show in my area make a comment about it "finally being Monday, glad the weekend is over" but he backtracked [and you could hear it in his voice] because he realized that in some areas of the country where he was being heard that it wasn't past midnight yet therefore it was still Sunday.

I guess Tom Kent was cheaper than Jack Miller, but is JT cheaper than Tom Kent? I think Tom Kent is more amusing than JT and it's no improvement. JT should be overnights.

Because puking DJs are more fun to listen to than actual air personalities (note the word 'personality').

I love when Ryan Seacrest gives a shout out to the University of Tampa, and then immediately cuts to awkward conversations about the brand of toilet that Taylor Swift uses.

And yet some people believe that Seacrest is live and local in Tampa. ::)

Gee and I thought radio was theater of the mind.
It was.
That term was coined when they still had dramas on radio.

Sirius#118 may help you.

Unfortunately, the theater has left the building and it is now a condo with few tenants or resident owners.

Yes I know. Back then the biggest stations in town carried network programming, and we look back on that period as the Golden Age of Radio. I doubt we'll be that generous about the last 25 years of programming.
