Voice Tracking Remotely with SS32

We are attempting to get our voice trackers from out of market to be able to voice track into our SS32 system without having to dub them all in by hand... Our other option is spending 995 per tracker for Wide Orbit's Remote Voice Tracker software. Anyone have any other ideas? Seems like a waste to send all of our weekenders that work from home a $1,000 software license for 12 hours of voice tracking a week. VPN? Logmein with a pro account?

Logmeinpro might e an option but at times the audio can break up a bit. As long as your talent and the station has a good Internet connection and they are dilligent about making sure the audio is good enough by checking it, you might be alright. Skype seems pretty dependable and near real time. That might be fun to try. Is there a way you could ingest a mp3 into the system easily? I know a morning show on a jazz station that the guy is doing all from home and just uploading his voice. To fold over voice and music together may be harder. It depends how important that is for your format and the daypart. He's using wireready.

I am not sure exactly what Wide Orbit is supporting in the transition. dMark/Google had a SS32 module for remote voice tracking. I remember they were offering it free to remote talent. Since I quit and moved from my last SS32 cluster in 2008, I have not been actively keeping up with the SS32 innovations. In the long haul, buying the WO software may be your best option to get the results you want.....on the other hand, if your SS32 is updated to the version that will play a raw mp3 and you do not need to talk over the music or right up to the post, you could configure an economy grade procedure with VPN capability into your system. Your expectations of the completed air product are what will determine how much resource you will need to deploy.

If you have the RRR software at your studios, you could have it monitor a folder on an ftp site, and then either by using Dispatch or simply pathing in your Receive schedules in RRR, have the mp3 file dropped into your vt category, you should be fine. Your remote users could use Adobe audition, and use the same naming convention, i.e. 1310 for your 1:10pm voice track, and make sure it is uploaded to the correct folder on the ftp, say mo3 for example if that is what you use for your monday vt category.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Any tips for us as we prepare to install in January? We dont want to pay 6 grand for the Wide Orbit guys to come install for us, and we are currently using Digital Jukebox..

Hi,

Just out of curiousity, why are you dropping Digital Juke Box to go with Audio Vault when DJB already offers internet voice tracking?

We are looking into BSI OP-X as it offers internet voice tracking and your remote jocks don't have to pay anything in order to have your rmeote jocks voice track.

We were using Raduga but it didn't have internet voice tracking capabilities though it's a great system. We recently purchased DJB but have been disappointed with tech support. Is that the same reason why you're dropping DJB?

thanks! josh

Maybe someone in your company could write a sweet custom software package that would do everything you need. You could pay him with maple-frosted donuts. If only you could find such a guy at your sister stations...
