Voice tracking

Hi Everyone:

I have been asked to do some voice tracking for a show on the internet. I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on how do this? The PD said that he will email a list of songs every week and all I have to do is do several spots. Are there any other questions that I should be asking? Also, how do I get in the move if I am not doing it live? Thanks for your help (any help that is).

Depends.

Sometimes, a station will supply software that enables you to hear samples of the songs you're voice tracking. That depends on the type of automation they're using (not all of the systems do this), and whether they opt to pay the extra software license fees to do this enhancement. Other times, it's a playlist with your VT locations and intro times noted.

I would listen carefully to how they're doing it now. Are they backselling the song(s) you're coming out of? How do they work in station imaging? Do you get the entire intro to yak, or do they want you to be understated in your approach? How about personality bits, can you use your own drops and stuff? What format do they want the VT's in? It's sometimes mp2 for Prophet or Audio Vault, and you may need to find an encoder program to make the conversion.

So many questions! Good luck.
