VOLT CHANGE

according to Tom Taylor's daily e-mail...WRQQ is out of the VOLT trust...and WQQK is in.
so now Cumulus will spin off 92.1 and 106.7...and keep 97.1
I bet if the e-mail had been sent yesterday, I'd have three copies of it.

But isn't it pretty well agreed that an actual spinoff may take years?

It does bill much better, however don't be too surprised if South Central picks the cluster up. This would give them a CHR station and a Urban AC which would fit nicely into their current AC/Adult Hits cluster.

I know the word COX has been thrown around, but they wouldn't do it for just two stations that aren't billing all that well. Maybe Cumulus will swap with R1 in a market, but doubtful.

South Central hasn't been shy it is active at looking for strategic acquisitions (Nashville, Louisville, Lexington)

Louisville? Lexington? Really? Did the Engelbrecht's buy something that we haven't heard about?

Even I can't make up possible buyers like Eric. Even that man Romer Romer Romer might might might could could could not even make up that kinda tale.

Gotta admit though, it never made sense to keep an inferior signal and throw off 97.1. Who made that observation and made the change? Not like anyone on the inside would know anything about the signals.

Hell!

Well here's the bottom line. South Central's flagship station is 96STO (WSTO) in Evansville, IN. This particular station sounds really good and the kicker is they are live all day long. No Ryan Seacrest or mid-day talent piped in from out of market. If South Central were to get one of these signals, I'd say they would make a dent in the Top 40/CHR market in Nashville. If there's one thing South Central does good it's Top 40. They would likely dump quite a bit of money into the property and really position it to be a big threat to the River. Bottom line is The River is vulnerable. The right company with the right people could shake things up over there in a fairly big way if they really wanted to. The biggest issue in competing with The River is its signal. The River, as we all know, has a killer signal that's hard to overcome.

If South Central were to buy them and invest in the CHR format it would probably be better for them to move adult hits to 106.7 and CHR to 96.3. that way they could give The River a good run at the CHR battle.

I can't see the logic on the move of AH (aka Jack) to such a tough signal to go
head-to-head with a CHR with a good signal. Jack has been strong for over half
a decade. It's been a solid biller, hitting the proper demo(s) and with the exception
of the typical fall football exodus to The Zone, it's still strong. The overhead is
minimal. Why change it? 106.7 is currently trying to compete with 107.5 and you
see the results. Certainly, it's not being maximized because it needs a good operator.
Why invest millions in a war against The River to take a 3.0-4.0 share of a demo
that is a tougher sell?

Look at what SC does in Knoxville. They have two tough, tough signals that have
never been able to perform because of that issue. The best format could'nt fix
that issue. First rule of business in a tough situation is to identify your weaknesses
and find a small niche that you might be able fill and that will support you and
that will allow you to defy those weaknesses. To play in the same league as
the 100kwers is virtually impossible.

I can't see SC willing to pay the asking price of 92.1 or 106.7, if "the trust"
ever really lets them go. The company is debt-free and even if they wrote
a check for these signals, sometimes, it's not worth buying your competition
out. Especially when you consider who the competition is.

Granted, if Volt sold them for $5M, then it would make sense. $5.1 is questionable.
:) Write the check, CR...or bring your mattress in. Would that get Buddy back???

Tibbs.....I haven't gone anywhere to come back from, but when my only radio connection comes from 2 hours a week at Chik-Fli-la and the press box from LP, I don't have much to add. I have to read you guys to keep up.

FREE CHICKEN AND FREE SEATS IN THE PRESS BOX...WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO LEAVE THAT ??? Ole Buds got it made !!! ;D The only reason I won't go to a Titans game is the Crowd...I hate crowds..well there IS that ticket price, the parking, the miles long walk to your seat, the cost of a beer,I have to go to the john every freakkin hour.....etc...lol...I still have a permanent press pass from 1970 for Gallatin High games...would that get me in with ya Bud ???

Pat...I think this comes under the saying, "the grass is always greener.
there are no crowds in the press box...but wish I knew where the 'free' chicken was. We usually have something called 'breakfast wonder what it is."
A writer from Indy said L-P press food was better than theirs...so we decided not to visit them. Upper north-east is great they say with fresh seafood. But we'll suffer with what we have. You could always try your 1970 Gallatin press pass --
