John Garret and me always, and I do mean ALWAYS have this debate. I know its silly. To us though, its like the Ginger or Mary Ann question.

So - I95, or KIX 106. When they were going against each other.

This'll be fun.

>I95- Mark and Brian..... still remember hearing a bit about "is that Tudie Green?... no, I think it's just the way the light is hitting it".

>no sh*t.... no snacks... i do have beer.... anyway... I'll put any station in history against WHHY (1976)

Larry Stevens Mornings
Chris O'Kelly Middays
David J. Beecher Afternoons
The Birdman Nights....

You could have dropped them in any market in america and they would have been #1

pass the pork rinds.

I--FRIGGING 95!

I LISTENED MY WHOLE LIFE ( ATTAT TIME ABOOUT 19 YEARS-- BUT THEY SIGNED ON IN EARLY 85 , SO ACTUALLY I LISTENED TO THEM FOR 9 YEARS, BUT I DIGRESS.)

I USED TO HEAR MARK AND BRIAN TALK ABOUT THE MYSTERIOUS BERNIE BARKER-- YEARS LATER I AM WORKING FOR BERNIE AND HE AND I ARE OUT AT A CHINESE RESTARAUNT.

I CASUALLY TELL HIM I AM THE FOREMOST AUTHORITY ON I-95.

SO HE QUIZZES ME-- AND I ANSWER EVERY QUESTIN HE ASKES-- THEN I'LL NEVER FORGET WHEN I GAVE HIM THE ENTIRE LINEUP AND EVERY JOCKS NAME IN THE ENTIRE EXISTENCE OF I-95.

THEN BERNIE PUT HIS FORK DOWN -- LOOKED AT ME AND SAID:" YOU REALLY U WERE A FAN"

I SAID " YOU ARE GODDAMN RIGHT. "

I KNEW MORE ABOUT HIS OLD AIRSTAFF THEN HE DID!

MARK AND BRIAN

JIMBO WOOD ( THE WORLDS #1 NIGHT GUY)

THE LATE MR. MADISON

SCOTT BOHANNON

ROBBIE RAGGS

THEY WERE MY FAVES. BTW-- ROBBIE RAGGS IS A FRIGGING GREAT TALENT. ANY BHAM STATIONS WOULD BE SMART TO PUT HIM ON AFTERNOONS.

JOHN

Q104.

Nah, they never held a candle to I-95. 95 had awesome talent, were live and local to the core...

(Heck, I can remember when Mark & Brian came to my tiny little hometown to work a dance in the high school gym. Would any station in Birmingham or a comparable market send their top names to a one-horse town on their fringe today? Nope, they don't care about where their listeners actually live.)

...and they had the stones to be a bit controversial, too. You won't see that around here these days.

But, damn, that was a long time ago. I was like 10, for crying out loud.

Steve and DC were the last morning drive team on Kicks 106 before they made the brief flip to X-106.

Kicks vs. I-95? No question about it...give me Kicks!

And while we're at it, go back 10 years and pick between WSGN and 96ERC. (No contest with me...except for Coyote J. Calhoun, I'll take the Big 610 without hesitation!)

Hey but give Q104 some credit. They were doing it on FM before there
was a KICKS-106 or I-95. The most listened to radio station in the state
of Alabama in the Spring '77 ARB's. Top 40 w/ album cuts was kicking everybody's ass. I was there and we had something special.
Later in '77 WERC-FM became KICKS-106 with John Shomby at the wheel.
The AM to FM transition was in high gear then.
