Voting Begins Tomorrow

Just wanted to let you know that the nominating process starts Monday for induction in to the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. So, I thought we'd kick around the names of some very deserving folks who have not been honored as of yet.

In the smaller markets, managers like Larry Gunter, Paul Gleiser and Benny Springer sure deserve a shot, as do Ben Downs and Don Cheney. As for jocks, Dave Moreland at KOOI gets my vote. Not far from him is Gary "Blue Eyes" Walker at KNUE.

If you are not a member, join up-it's 15 bucks. www.trhof.com If you are a member, please vote.

How about Tom Perryman from The Ranch (KKUS) in Tyler? Tom's been around here for a long time. I first met him when I was a kid visiting my Aunt in Henderson. She had a Saturday morning radio show on KGRI that touted Rusk Country history. I tagged along with her. Even at a very early age I was fascinated at the whole idea of broadcasting, so for better or worse, my presence on this Board is probably all Tom's fault. ;)

I'm not really sure how old I was, but I'll guess I was about ten when I first met him. That would be over 50 years ago. Tom is still doing a daily air shift. More power to him….

Is this limited to English language radio? I'd nominate Joe Morales. He was recently laid off as GM of Univision radio in the McAllen-Brownsville market. His pipes have done imagery magic for Spanish language stations in all market sizes across Texas for at least 30 years and as a personality, programmer and manager he's been instrumental in launching a number of Spanish radio stations across Texas, too. In fact, it could be argued he has been the most widely heard voice in Texas radio... period.
