VOTING TIME AGAIN

Time once again for people to cast their votes in RI Monthly's annual Best Of polls including best morning radio show.Tad and Brian have a link on their page on the 933coastfm website to the site along with a not so subtle hint to vote for them.LOL.
Anyone else hear any morning teams mention the voting?
After years of Joan Edwardson winning I think Giovanni and Kim pretty much have it year after year.
Only one vote per valid e-mail but naturally people can create endless e-mail addresses
Wonder who will go through the trouble to do so to vote multiple times
 
It wasn't Joan who got the votes, it was David Jones who got it because he is buddies w/ a Sr manager over at RI Monthly (Gio & Kim only won the years when he was up north in NH-I don't think Joan won w/o David being there).

My personal opinion is that Gio & Kim should win it as they are the morning show that has me listening every day. I know a number of people at work who feel the same way and often hear "did you hear this story on the sleaze this morning?" between people. I don't hear people talking about Paul & Al, T&B, Imus, John Depetro, Jones & Heather or any other morning show....

One vote for TC (Tom Campbell) and Kristin (Lessard), at B101...sorry for the bias... ;)
 
Gio and Kim do generate buzz and have good chemistry
Paul and Al and the bunch have it to but are not the types to beg for votes
Good chemistry on B101 and Steve Mac is underrated both on B101 and HJY as Jim Shorts. He's a good addition to both morning shows
I guess there's chemistry on the CTK morning show. I don't think it's a good show but the co-hosts do work well together
Good casual natural chemistry on Lite but nothing you wouldn't hear in any other market of this size
Coast's morning duo probably looked good on paper but they both need to get away from each other, out of there, and into some station where they fit. The show sounds forced and scripted and I think they appeal more to men than women
No opinion on Hot but I doubt that their audience has a high set of standards
Now it's a matter of how often stations can vote for their own morning shows
 
The vote will go to the same team whose demographic matches those who are most likely to read Rhode Island Monthly. Not a terribly accurate representatiion in my opinion. Most people listening to the Radio won't even know about this poll. To make things worse, Wknd92 pretty much paints a picture of the poll being fixed. This gives me even less faith in the accuracy of it. Then when you've got a radio station begging for votes on it's website, you can't help but to realize that winning this award is pretty much worthless in the end.
 
No one has ever really taken this thing seriously for anything else than an ego stroke but how much of an ego stroke is it if you pull strings to be named "THE BEST". It doesn't make you the best anyway any more than someone posting an opinion here make anything so. What's best to one person is worst to another. Now with both morning teams at PRO-FM and Lite Rock 105 being in the same building is there a meeting in the building to determine who they want to be named the best. Egos egos egos. Makes the Tad and Brian thing pale by comparison.

Wknd92 mentioned people at work saying "did you hear this story on the sleaze this morning?". I don't even know what the hell that means. But I guess it means something. People at her job happen to like Gio and Kim. It's the best to them, but that doesn't necessarily reflect what is the best to most people. RI Monthly should take an arbitron book and use the ratings to reflect who has the most popular morning show. At least it would be accurate.

John, that would require them to purchase a subscription as use of Arbitron material w/o approval is strictly prohibited. And, as always, the audience for RI Monthly is not the same as those who would fill out a diary, so why should they go that route, especially as the diaries float thru different demographics and areas in any given reporting period, which is why most people look at a composite of 2-3 books to take the true temperature of what is going on in a given market.....but you knew that anyway, didn't you. As far as the RI Monthly survey, why is it that the more prominent awards are given to those who advertise while an new upstart restaurant, florist, bakery, etc have little tono chance of ever winning an award?

There's a link on the Coast website to the survey. Tad and Brian ask for votes and promise not to brag about it if they win like someone they know. I wonder if the bragging refers to Jones or Giovanni and Kim. Sounds like an inside joke if you ask me.
 
That's all this survey pretty much is. The chance for bragging rights. Don't get me wrong. It's kind of fun see who wins. But unfortunatey it kind of gives readers the false impression of who is most popular (as in) who has the most listeners. However the winner won't necessarily be the one with the most listeners. The winner will be the one who has figured out the best way to get the most votes.

Umm no...not even close re Gio & Kim seeing as Jones and Heather have won the past 2 years running.....Gio and Kim don't even care...they know what the ratings say, they don't need some piece of paper coming out of Pleasant Valley Parkway showing what they do each morning. Not inside at all, just 2 guys wishing they had 1/2 the ratings a syndicated show in the area had....

This reminds me a little of the Projo's TopJock contest, back in the 80's. As long as you didn't copy the ballots, which had to be an original copy from a newspaper, anyone could stuff the ballot box.
 
If Tad Lemiere sounds even a 10th as good as he did when I was living up there, he's still hands down the best broadcatser in Providence. Period.
