Hah! * I knew the topic title would get your attention...*

An old radio friend of mine who is a small station owner asked me today about Webcams...he's going to put one in his studio to feed the station web page. He was asking me about the technical end of it, but my first response was " have you checked with the air staff? "

I can't think of anything I'd rather have less than the whole world watching me sitting there scratching something while I planned the next break. Since it has been a decade (or so) since I was on the air, I'm curious as to what today's air folks think about studio cams...
 
I'm on-air and trust me times haven't changed at all since you've gotten off radio. Now, with the ease of automation, there would be nothing to watch!! May catch me filling out papers/logs, running from studio to studio, or just simply sitting back enjoying a little cable tv. Talk breaks are shorter than ever now, so if you blink you'd miss me doing a bit. Basically, I don't see the studio cam being very entertaining, but a good way for management to keep an eye out on you, if they wanted to! :p If I'm not mistaken, Q107 has a webcam of some sort?? So those guys could tell you best.

Q107 in Florence? That would be the station formerly run by GM Bill Thomas years back. He later went on to run the Thomas Media group of station in Jackson, TN all owned by Black Crow. Bill spent an extra $3,000.00 having video monitors put in the lobby of the Thomas Media building. All for the sole purpose of watching the jocks and sales reps comings and goings. They weren't hooked up to a recorder mind you. They were just so he could watch what you were doing. I know because I asked him about them when some equipment got up and walked out of the buliding. I asked if we could identify the person responsible with "the tape." There was no tape! He told me then in a department head meeting what the cameras were for and it wasn't security! LOL He'd also sit in a near by parking lot for hours watching who was coming and going and when. I guess the GM's job was a good one for him! ;)
 
When I was at Flinn, CT pulled me out of the studio one day and told me not to be reading the news paper in the studio. Doc had pulled up the webcam on the internet to show some of his buddies and I was apparently goofing off reading the paper with my feet kicked up. This embarrassed Doc pretty bad. I had to go into the hall to read the paper from that day until I got fired!!!!
 
Doc likes to make sure no one is stealing his vintage era equipment or not too many drugs going down in the lobby or in the Hot studios!

I'm sure he checked with the jocks first before he started spying on his people.

Based on everyone's comments I told my friend he should just drop the whole idea. :p
