VT PUBLIC Suffers RDS Hack

This a.m., the VT PUBLIC scrolling RDS popped up: "F*** Y**, guys". Disgruntled intern?? This was around 0955.
Not good...

I don't know enough technical to under fully how RDS works. Would it be possible to override that remotely or would that have to happen on site?

Can you broadcast false RDS information over the existing spectrum allocation, I assume a receiver would not care where the bits are coming from, IE Master source signal or not.

Only guessing, but probably an inside job. Generally speaking, RDS accepts the meta data from automation. That information is transmitted along with the content and is unique to a given signal. Most RDS boxes have the capability of encoding test strings and canned messages, etc. Wouldn't be hard to hack at all. Idle hands...

RDS does accept that data, but it can also be given a static message.. one that doesnt change. Not hard at all to hack and be an outside job if one knows what to look for and do.

Gee, did someone NOT change a default password somewhere?
