W in WPRO stand for Whine?

Worked downtown when Buddy was mayor. So freaky how nobody can recall the same fine snow removal and smooth efficient city government Buddy The Corrupt recalls. His pontificating is nauseating. Buddy Cianci is corrupt dirtbag with a federal rap sheet. Never forget that.

John Depetro seems to be regressing in age and somewhere along the line had a sex change operation. Who was that whining 12 year old girl doing his show Friday? Embarrassingly unprofessional.

Dan Yorke spends the day driving in a snowstorm to get back to RI so he can do his show, arrives in-state too late for his show, knows the roads are horrible because it took him hours to get back to RI, decides the station will crumble without him and he attempts to drive into Providence, becomes part of the traffic nightmare and then has the gall to whine and cry and stomp his feet about being stuck a mega traffic jam that he should have known about and never should have driven into. Dan's carrier pigeon out of service that day and he never got any messages about the horrendous road conditions in the city? Takes some kind of nerve to complain about the traffic pig pile he contributed to with his own unnecessary presence.

Matt Allen did a terrific job on Thursday filling in and the station played an important role in keeping people informed through caller reports and their own traffic report team. Unfortunately Matt has morphed into a nanny stater and now blames the government for every aspect of Thursday's storm. No need for personal responsibility. It was all da guvments fawlt. Perhaps Matt is hanging out with Danny the Mad Driver a bit too much?

Nice job WPRO but please stop the whining! Snow happens! Traffic happens! When they happen together in the middle of a work-school day bad things happen. Get over it! Anyone else get the feeling if WPRO studios were out of harms way the whiney's would disappear?
Hell hath no fury like an inconvenienced media. ;)

Phew! I was worried for a second there that we wouldn't make the anit WPRO quote there.

Seriously, what did you expect them to do? Every single person calling in wanted to talk about the storm, not the other things that were happening. Dan Yorke drove in to 1) Try to get to the station, knowing they were planning on staying live until atleast 9, 2) Update them on the conditions. Colleen Lima was out as well, and Colleen provided us at Metro with information as well, especially how long it was taking to get from one place to the other. Dan also helped several people, probably gaining a listener for life, because a lot of people are really touched by things like this.

The points Buddy was making were all valid. Why were the roads not pretreated? where were the plows that were supposed to be clearing the off ramps. He also provided a lot of insight into how the City hall works in processes like that. Whether he did his job admirably while in office is up for debate, his knowledge of how it should have worked isn't.

I won't comment on DePetro.

Radiohead...I will give you JD (my post on another thread said that on Friday); but Buddy was point on and even if Dan was coming from outside the state, it took me 2 1/2 hours to move between 1 exit on Rt 146 as Dan did between Branch and Admiral (I would have gotten off at Branch if I could have gotten over) and I was about an hour behind Dan (he was at admiral about the time I was at the Rt 146/Branch Ave camera for the DOT. Nizam can attest to that....(I tried calling into Metro and couldn't get thru)

I can recall a number of days when I'd be up at 3am to shovel out the car to get into Wampanoag Trail (winter of 1993 or 1994 it was almost a daily ritual) for Operation Snowball because those phones started at 4:30...sometimes earlier.

It isn't whining, it is news...Look at the front page of yesterday's Pro-Jo. Look at the wall to wall coverage so far this morning on Ch 6, 10 & 12 because of what happened on Thursday. There are a lot of people upset (rightly so) and you have a number of questions that linger...why did the mayor assure everyone that they knew where all of the students were when the Asst Superintendent didn't know there were kids on buses (just thought that the kids stuck at school were the ones she had to worry about). Why did the mayor wait until 9pm to set up emergency HQ...didn't the preceeding 8 hours give him a clue that there was a problem? Where was the police in Providence? Why didn't the plows in Providence plow the roads that weren't jammed up (seeing as they couldn't get to those) prior to attacking the jammed up roads (once I got off Rt 146 and thru the Admiral St jam, Admiral St from Chad Brown up to River still had a good 4-6 inches on it, no sand and no sign of a plow as did River, Eaton and Smith Str which were all barren of vehicles (Smith St when you got to N Providence was close to pavement as a comparison as was High Service).

What number were you using? The tip line I assume, and it wasn't ringing off the hook but it was ringing quite a bit.

And I don't doubt you where stuck there. I wasn't even checking that camera all that often. Mainly because while there was a lot going on there with traffic, nobody was spinning out, I believe mainly because you're heading down hill at that point on 146(could be wrong, I don't actually get out that way too much.

Guys don't misunderstand. Of course the storm should have been the one and only topic on the table, It's the nasal whine of the hosts that I'm speaking about. Ironic for Cianci to critique when I recall the shape he left that city in during snowstorms. No credibility.
Concerning Yorke he never did make the station did he Nizam?? But despite your contention of Dan's heroism earlier in the evening he didn't stay out to play good Samaritan all night long did he Nizam? He also didn't hang around Providence all night so he could provide Matt and Paul with traffic reports did he Nizam? No, once Dan freed himself from the traffic pig pile he never should have gotten into to begin with what did Dan do Nizam? Dan went home which is where Dan should have been hours earlier when he passed the exit to his hometown so he could join the traffic jam. Every single person in that traffic pig pile had a legit reason to be there but that doesn't mean they SHOULD HAVE BEEN. Sorry but you don't get a free pass for bad judgment and getting in the way just because you're media.

Of course he didn't. It was my understanding that at about 4 or 5 o'clock, he reach Providence via back roads, where there was no traffic, saw the jam, tried to navigate it and gave up, tried to get on 95 north from memorial blvd(nobody was on the highway past thurbers, because very few lanes were getting by there), but got stuck with everyone else and helped get them out, which took 3 hours. He was on that ramp trying to dig alongside everyone else for 3 hours. Thats why he wasn't calling in all night. It was tough for everyone, but the fact was, by the time he would have gotten there, WPRO would have been going back to Jerry Doyle, not staying life. Shit happens, he made a decision that he wanted to help the radio station he works for, and tried to make it in. A lot of those people caught in the traffic were there because they were trying to make it to work, late or not. Dan was no different.

Radiohead...something personal happened between you and Dan, it is painfully obvious. Dan also was out the next day b/c of some procedure that he had (as heard on his show when talking to Trillo who filled in for him). Maybe he had to get home to prepare for it (ie take some fluids/dyes for it)

As far as Buddy and the state he left the city in snowstorms, being an almost lifelong resident of the Capital City or its surrounding communities-other than the Blizzard of 78, I do not remember a snowstorm of 4-8 inches that paralyzed the city like that. There was the April Fool's snowstorm in 1997 that had the highways backed up; but the city streets were pretty good. Since David took office, side streets remain a mess, they don't salt/sand like they used to. That little ice storm we had back in the spring, it took me 2 changes of a light to get thru an intersection because after a day of melting and refreezing, no one had come out to re sand the intersection (and it is within 2 blocks of 2 schools and 2 colleges). The school bus behind me ended up having the same problem and it was full of kids.....

Yorke is a Drama Queen. Plain and simple. He sounded foolish on Thursday and I think Matt Allen copies him because he doesn't want Dan all over him.

Hahaha. I just called Yorke a Drama Queen in a post 5 minutes ago before I even read yours. I wonder how many others feel he's a drama queen. Apparently he must give out those vibes since multiple people are saying it.

I was trying the tip line, again, it wasn't all the time; it probably was when others were calling in. I couldn't get thru to the PRO studio, either, so no biggie, reached out and touched my contact list that night....

really?? ive worked in providence almost 13 yrs and never had an issuse w/ the roads there untill the new regime came in.... and i cant remember there EVER BEING SCHOOL BUSES STUCK ON CITY STREETS FOR OVER 7-8 HRS WITH SCHOOL CHILDREN ON THEM UNDER CIANCI'S WATCH

I don't see where Dan's being on the road was an unnecessary presence. He's media. He has as much right to be on the road trying to get to work as some TV reporter has to trek out to Shaw's to interview people buying bread & milk. If he didn't try to get in, undoubtedly someone here would complain that he stayed home nice & snug...not that he has to answer to anyone but his bosses at WPRO & I doubt they're complaining. Anyone who's been in radio & is faced with a decision to stay home or make the effort knows you make the effort. It's called work ethic. If you read his blog you'll also see he got out of his car with his shovel & helped to push some cars up a ramp.

As far as the traffic situation, there was a communications breakdown & lots of people are to blame. Traffic in this state has deteriorated greatly on dry pavement so you can't even compare this situation with some in the past without looking at all the factors. When you have a growing population of people who have moved here from climates where the temperature is never less than 80 degrees, what do you expect when there's 7 inches of snow on the ground? That may sound politically incorrect but it's a factor.
