W+J on WRNO ?????

The Houston board is buzzing with a reliable source saying that Walton and Johnson are moving to C.C. owned talker 950 AM in Houston. W+J's website teases the change, and says there will be changes among their affiliates too. If they form a coup with C.C.could they be moving to 99.5??

Fire w&j!

Walton & johnson have been fired again in Houston, for no ratings, among the usual reasons. :D

A few weeks ago Cumulus fired them from The Bone in Dallas. Good riddance! :D

W&j were fired first in Houston from CC's KLOL, in fact, they did so poorly mornings in Houston on 101KLOL that the station went Spanish Hip Hop.

Even after being given another chance at KIOL for over 2 years, walton & johnson were invisible in the ratings. They never had one good book. The show never caught on in Texas and is long past it's "glory days" in Louisiana.

Eagle and Entercom would much rather have these guys as affiliates than having to deal with their daily demands and upsetting coworkers. I bet Louisiana radio management, sales and promotions folk are sweating under the armpits more than the movie Mississippi Burning, worrying about having to provide studios and all the lavish demands of w&j.

So sayeth Rex.

Rex needs to come down from his high horse.....
1) KLOL was going to Spanish thanks to CC and not to W&J....KLOL had been slipping for years....love the old rock that they played but the numbers were going down even when W&J were brought online....
2) Cumulus pulled them from 93.3 The Bone true....but then 93.3 has never done that well in DFW...that station changed formats/on air folks almost as fast as some people change underwear....
3) KIOL is a rimshot and doesnt cover Houston very well...thus its ENTIRE ratings suck......just because W&J were on the mornings was not the reason for poor ratings....103.7 does NOT have the coverage as the Sr Road stations....and never will.....103.7 was a $32+ million waste of money for Cumulus...(they paid Ben Amato that much for the license...then had to build the new 2000ft tower, etc; one reason the former Houston GM of Cumulus left for another group...after 97.5's failure for the same reason but much less money, why go through it again?)

You may now continue with your ego trip....but reality is much different.

Fire w&j!

No arguement from me that CC seems to savor destroying heritage stations. It was their mismanagement that hired w&j in the first place and honestly if the ratings at KLOL from w&j would have been as good as their boasting, KLOL wouldn't have had to flip.

2) Cumulus pulled them from 93.3 The Bone true....but then 93.3 has never done that well in DFW...
W&j provided no ratings in Dallas. They can't blame Cumulus.
3) KIOL is a rimshot and doesnt cover Houston very well...
Still no excuse for over 2 years of "effort". Yes, walton has openly complained about their signal, among other issues at KIOL for years. Regardless of their signal, KIOL was the station that bailed them out when they were fired by CC; providing w&j a place to syndicate their show to stations in the region not even owned by Cumulus. They also put them on in Dallas and all Cumulus has to show for it are lower ratings and disgruntled employees blaming them for their failure.
When 2 guys who refer to themselves as gods boast about being number 1 and claim they are more intelligent than others, then they deserve a splash of reality.

So respondeth Rex.

First of all I didnt intend on this thread being crapped on by a "How Good are W+J's Ratings in Houston " discussion. Secondly, to Rex, W+J still throw good numbers in Louisiana. Eagle 98.1 is constantly in the top 5 carried by W+J, Bayou actually switched frequencies after Katrina and killed a decent performing oldies station so W+J would still have a full power home. Why would management make such a rash move for a morning show with no ratings?

The question i asked was if anyone thought it was possible we could see W+J jump ship from Bayou to 99.5 if W+J do infact get in bed with C.C. again? Could a rebirth of classic rock on 99.5 come along with that switcharoo? 99.5's ratings have stunk as talk, and Im sure its an expensive operation to run. Without W+J on 95.7 I think they could switch back to oldies, or classic hits or whatever the formats called these days.

w&j should be fired.

No. w&j negotiate affiliate contracts seperately from the flagship station in Houston. If they were to jump ships in Louisiana, that would be the result of separate negotiations not related to Houston events. If that were to happen it would be because their contract with Entercom was up for renewal. CC destroyed WRNO intentionally just like KLOL and they should scrap their talk attempt. 95.7 would do better with music in the morning and not some divisive political show beamed in from Houston telling locals how and who to vote for. W&j have stated that they are in Texas for the rest of their careers and not going back to Louisiana (to live). There are some who post on this board that don't seem to understand that there are many people, even in radio who don't want to live and work in New Orleans and the surrounding areas anymore since Katrina.

Also, Fieldtech, what happens to w&j in Houston has a lot to do with what is heard in Louisiana. For instance, because they won't be on the air in Houston until at least July 30th, that means Louisiana stations will air their "best of".
Even though it seems like they will be on Mojo 950 in Houston, I'll wait until it's official and confirmed by the radio station. The "reliable source" you cite may be right this time, but he's gotten some info completely wrong before.

So sayeth Rex.

The lineup for 950 in houston seems like a trainwreck. W/J followed by Mancow then Ramsey (preach way brother!!) then some local yahoos. Might WJ been on their last legs?

Never in New Orleans... How do you spell "Arrested Development???"
Scary.
