W N S R & T H E G A M E C H A N G E S

I heard today that there are major changes going on at WNSR and 102.5 the Game. Greg Pogue resigned from the morning show and is moving to the afternoons with Willy Daunic at 102.5 the game. Joe Dubin is said to be moving to the morning show with Brad Hopkins and Darren MacFarland. The news is that WNSR is going to shut down the morning show and run satellite programming. Where will all the pieces fall? Now 560 has one live show unless you count Jake Wild?

Dubin, McFarland and Hopkins together? Now, that's some pricey morning show. But for how long? They let Aaron Solomon go to make room for Greg Pogue's paycheck. They'll do the same thing to one member of the morning show trio. Don't be too surprised if McFarland's the odd man out by fall. It's all about money and Bud likes to keep his in his pocket.

Besides, it's a station made up entirely of the market's wannabes, rejects and has-beens. Really, does anyone care?

Prediction: The first station to go all Christmas this year? The Game, by Thanksgiving.

I'll continue listening to the Zone and be quite happy, thank you.

I think Channel 2 Should have made Big Joe their main Sports guy. He is much better than the lame guy they have now. I would like to see The Game stick around for the long haul. But, making lineup changes so hastily makes me wonder. Bringing on Pouge also is a questionable decision.

This is really interesting news. I knew that Greg was headed to The Game and judging by his notification on FB, it wasn't apparently on the radar until very recently. I think The Game has a chance. Simply because it's a good station for those that don't want to ALWAYS talk freakin' Titans and UT. Dan Patrick is good though and Colin Cowherd is just AWFUL! It would be nice if they had a news and weather update every once in a while though. It gives them a more "in touch" sound as opposed to just being an ESPN affiliate most of the time.

Dubin and Daunic had some appeal and chemistry, enough so that I flipped back and forth between the Zone and the Game in the afternoons. Daunic and Pogue, not so sure. Of course, the Poguester was an early member of the Plas Pack.

I'm beginning to suspect WNSR will now be All Thom Abraham, All the Time. 106.7 the Fan was only the beginning... mwah-ha-ha-ha!

If they want to be first, they will need to switch over much earlier than that! Mix 92.9 flipped on November 18th this past year, and the Fish probably switched over even earlier than that!

Where do the Changes on 102.5 The Game leave Plaster. Does anyone know what he is planning to do now that his 6 months are completes?

How many changes go on with Cromwell? This isn't exactly a stable place to work. I hope all these guys have back up plans. My guess is The Game will change to religious music or a spanish format in about a year.

Wasn't the reason 102.5 switched from the Party to the Game was because George Plaster had left 104.5 the Zone because he refused to work for Cumulas again and giving George Plaster somewhere to bring his show after his No Compete clause was up?

That was Discussion Board speculation, not from anyone who actually knew what was going on with either Cromwell or Plaster.

[/quote]George Plaster left 104.5 the Zone in early August, using the escape clause he had in his contract that stated he could leave at anytime if Cumulas were to purchase the Zone. 102.5 the Party didn't switch to all-sports until late August, a week before college football season started, and there was NO TALK at all about a format switch to all-sports until the Thursday before they became the 102.5 Game on Monday, August 29th. It just seemed the whole format change was RUSHED from the get-go.

102.5 discussed moving to an all-sports format as much as a year before they made the switch. It was put on hold and then revisited a year later, but if you recall they (Cromwell) picked up the Predators a year earlier than the move and put them on 102.9. The reason they didn't pull the trigger was to NOT rush a move and research more. If you will recall they also broadcast some high school football on one of their stations the year before. Do you see the beginning of the process now? Another piece of evidence that it wasn't rushed is they rebuilt their studio and brought equipment to better operate as a talk/sports stations. That didn't just happen on the "thursday" before the switch. That was at least a month or more in the making. So to say it was a rash decision not discussed until a week before is just WRONG. The discussions with ESPN were also put into motion well before they announced the change. You see, there was a lot of planning that went into this move. I don't necessarily agree with the personnel groupings or hirings, but they did have a plan. There are far too many people at Cromwell who believe they are in charge, but they are talking about ideas and acting on them. The discussions began well before there was a sale pending of 104.5 and so the move wasn't "just" to have a landing place for Plaster. Plaster has been talking to other stations and nearly had a deal in place to move to 105.9. 102.5 will have enough capital to work with as long as they keep putting on the games from the Predators and other teams. That will buy them time to develop chemistry with their talk shows. As long as 104.5 has that ridiculous afternoon show pairing and the afternoon drive team, 102.5 will have a chance to build an audience. The afternoon drive is attractive to people under 25. The afternoon show is attractive to people who liked to be talked down to or listen to people be insulted.
