Wikipedia claims that Scott Walker did fire 4 long time people to make his mark on the station, but it also claims he took it to number one using Drake like jingles and imaging plus employing old time Detroit vets like Dick Purtan , Ted Richards, and Lisa Lisa. Based on that,
Scott Walker is either a grandstanding diva ( "When Purtan rears his head, where does he go?") or a wonder child of programming. I would assume until the real thing arrives Monday morning, maybe both.

Having worked with him... I can personally tell you that he is neither...not to toot my horn, but I have forgotten more about programming and jocking than he will ever know. And that's no brag...just fact. I just refuse to kiss the GM's ass to get a head. Scott has it down to a fine art. Other than that, he's dumber than a sack of hammers!

According to a poster at TAMPABAY.COM who states he knows Scott Walker, Q105 will be pulling a New Eagle and going jockless from 7PM on. This would be a golden opportunity for COX to ramp up their stations with old Q staff and take it downtown. I guess we will see . After all my enthusiasm about W----O--MC coming here, I'm getting suspicious. Time to get some rest and fight the good fight tomorrow

Good Night MsMusicRadio...sleep tight and no hard feelings, I'm just trying to tell you like it is with this guy, nobody gets fired from a station after they took it to # one and leaves a top ten market to come to market # 19. He was out of work when he took the job at Q105. As I said before, check into why he was fired from his Jacksonville PD job before WOMC on HR issues. This is not a nice man...he is a back stabber to 1st degree and will do what ever it takes to cover his own ever expanding ass!
Hope to talk to soon.
unemployed air talent

Good night to you too whomever you are. Maybe Scott Walker left Detroit because he wanted a warm climate and no more snow.I don't know. Hope you will be back soon with somebody. Let me know with a clever over the air signal if you get a job.

What...no classic hits syndicated wonderboy Tom Kent 7-midnight?

Oh yes...Tom Kent is in the plan...and that would mean that Jack Miller is out of the plan. There would go another local DJ out work due to the bottom line at CBS. To bad Summner Redstone owes $800,000,000.00. Too bad he can't bring himself to cut from the top instead of the bottom. Cut about 10 of the top guys at CBS and hey as Chuck Berry would say "All problems solved children"!

TK is on the WOMC site, but he doesn;t seem to be in rotation. Wouldn't the best plan to keep Jack Miller evenings and TK overnight? They weren't live overnight all along. If they plan on doing robo at night, this station will have no edge over the Eagle. This is my plan for the fired staff
1) 107.3
6 Bill and JOJO until Mason comes over
10--Nick V
3---John Moore
7----Jack Miller

Didn't finish:

WDUV 1) Dick Ring 6-10
2) Marvin Boone 10-3
3) Rico Blanco 3-7
4) Brian Black 7-12

WPOI 1) Corey Dillon 6-10
2) Joe Elliot 10-3
3) Mike Reeves 3-7
4) Dick Reigns 7-12

They all get a slot and nobody now on COX loses their job

Whadda ya tink?

On that note, maybe it is my imagination, but in the last several weeks the voices on the Point are doing way more talking. Could it be COX knows the Point with be the only station in Tampa Bay focusing on a similiar demo that actually has local personalities 18 hours a day. Evenings may be VT'ed, but I presume Brian Black is not off the bird. He doesn't sound polished enough yet. If Q goes robo at night, that would be the case unless you count MIX with somebody 6-10PM? really weird

Take a breath and accept it. Cox is not going to be hiring any of these people. I mean seriously.... you think they're suddenly gonna bring aboard upwards of 6 personalities? Do you know how much that would cost? Good jocks? Yes... but it doesn't work that way anymore. Cox has a formula for that cluster that has apparently been working for them going on damn near 10 years. They're not gonna screw with it and throw off the bottom line. Heck, we used to blast Cox on this board 6 years agao for how cheap they were. Well, when was the last time they made a major format change over there?

MsMusic... there are a lot of people on this board that know A LOT about the business... and some of them have been trying to explain to you how it works. No disrespect here... but every market is different and every cluster is built specificly for the market it serves. CBS has apparently done it's research and that says to make the changes you are now hearing. I'm sorry if you don't like it but you need to realize there are many many more options for the radio listener today. Explore them and be happy. 104.7 is not the only "station" available.

I guess there are. I can stream other market stations from LA or NYC where there seems to be a comittment to personality radio FOR THE MOMENT. I can listen to WOMC too! I guess the days of Jim Stagg and Jim Runyon going from WKYC to WCFL without missing a beat are over.

So what da wanna do, Marty?

But, if success is not measured by the number listening and COX doesn't care to be number one-----------why BUBBA?

FYI - Brian Black has been in radio a lot longer than both Joe Elliot and Dick Reigns. :) Joe and Dick were both do boys that Shark hired over at 97x, and when Cox gave Shark the keys to the point he had to throw somebody in there. The funny thing is both of them are working in a format from their birth years and early child-hood. It's hard for me to respect a personality on a "hits" station that was two years old when the songs they play were a "hit."

OK------if a country station were hypothetically to have a classic hit segment where young DJ's born after 1970 were to play Bob Wills or Hank Williams Sr-------would you object.?????? I think the Point sounds better and I have no problem with anybody. They all sound stronger on the air. I never listened to 97x because my senior ears would implode, so I don't know how Joe and Dick work that. Heck, Guns and Roses are classic rock now. Of course X probably doesn't play them, so what do I know.

It would really depend upon the station honestly and what the sound is like.
My issue with The Point is that Corey Dylan has a very polished sound in the mornings and then the rest of the day I listen to two clearly college-aged young guys, or three if Brian is on. Joe Elliot needs to stick to being Joel on 97x and Dick Reigns needs to go back to being Dick on 97x. Shark knows, thats why he stopped having Jess "Phoebe" Andrews VT'ing the point at night.
Shark and Kate should be on The Point, they both are two very intelligent individuals who probably know a lot more about the eras of music being played on the point then Joe and Dick combined. When I listen to 97x I listen because it takes me back to my college radio station days. Fisher and Boy in the morning and Phoebe at night...both have that young, unpolished college station sound (Which is funny because Chris Fisher has been in radio for awhile). I hate to say this but I've been an avid listener of The X since its debut and I can't listen to Shark anymore. I know Kate is gone a lot but moving her from the Afternoon Drive to mid shift was a bad idea...Shark is too smart (yes...I said it...TOO SMART) to be on during that prime day spot on The X. Put him on Afternoon Drive on the Point and the stuff he talks about might actually make sense to the listeners. I love Kate, she is so versatile she could be on either station, and her passion for New Rock is insane so I'd hate to looser her on The X but, if positioning the point to be a stronger player in the market is the name of the game Corey, Kate and Shark are the ones to make it happen. Put Joe and Dick back on the X, and watch it grow as well.

I would agree. Back in the day of aggressive TOP 40, they would have a college type do overnights Monday AM. Sometimes you could hear them get more mature and polished and they would get promoted to overnights during the week.. ;D Like Terry McGovern on KDKA and JM in the AM on KQV. That was when Pittsburgh had only four 24 hour stations. two top 40 , one MOR, and one B/EZ. Maybe we have too many choices now :-[ ::)

I'll verify and agree with everything "UUill" says. Shark and Kate are around 30 I believe... In fact, I knew Shark when he broke outta Gainesville and got the evening gig at WJRR around 1994. The guy knows music and is an excellent program director. HOWEVER, you must realize that his hands are tied with WPOI. My best guess... the station has not been given some kind of a budget increase. In fact, when Nick Sanders was cut loose, Shark was already on staff and was basicly given the gig to freshen and keep the Point competitive. If I'm wrong, someone in the know please correct me... but from what I hear is simply a station that has tossed in some younger talent that was already employed reading liner cards. And let's be honest, the jocks from 97X were the closest to sounding "real". Can you imagine Dick Ring, Cowhead, or Ann Kelly voicetracking the Point? Never gonna happen.

If memory serves, the last time WOMC hit #1 in Motown was Summer 2002 under PD Bill Stedman.

Ann Kelly maybe. They did have Kevin Connors Voie tracking the Point as "Connors". Sounded fine for them.

Right you are BobbyV...it was not Scott Walker...the closest he came to #1 was when he went to the men's room! And from what I'm hearing on the air this morning...looks like that may still be the case...as far as #1 goes...of couse if you ask me, it sure sounded alot like #2 this morning.
