W202CC 88.3 [Air1 Translator] APP request.

They have re-cut the legal ID insert for WOHC 90.1.. It now mentions "99.3 in Columbus"

Never said they were not legal .. They just clearly are lower modulation than other stations in the market. [and lower than the previous owners WCDR-FM]

(Still happy they are now on 99.3) ... I can actually now listen to them on the FM in Columbus and not via my iPhone with AUX input) 88.3 was pretty much not listenable unless you were near downtown.
 
Those were also my observations listening downtown to 88.3 over the last few months. The audio was not anywhere as loud as the other stations and significantly lower then it was on when WCDR was on the 88.3 translator.

You are saying the signal strength on 99.3 is stronger then when they were on 88.3 where you live?

Yes, the station comes in a lot cleaner in north Columbus now on 99.3 I am pretty sure that they are using a different antenna with the move to 99.3.. while they are still at 10 watts ERP from the same height.. The difference is because when they licensed on 88.3 they had a very tight directional antenna (I think because of being 1st adj to 88.1 WWGV Grove City).. now that their on 99.3 they have a slightly different pattern.

Even the Radio-Info coverage maps show this:

While still at the same height and 10 watt ERP ...with the new location at 99.3 they slightly cover more space.

It appears EMF is more interested in dynamic range then overall loudness of their audio.

I've been checking out the 99.3 translator from time to time over the last few days and although it does have some static, it's pretty clear throughout the metro area. Although I am a fan of AIR 1 and the positive programming, like some of the other guys on the board, I would love Clear Channel to buy it and throw hip-hop on it :)

Glad to see you checking it out :) Glad to know someone is listening besides me! (though I admit I really don't listen to much terr. radio with the AUX input in my car.. typically I listen to my own station online during my 35 min drive to and from work)

I do appreciate what AIR1 is though.. It's in-between what WCVO (The River) and Rocker (Radio U) are doing!

WOHC 90.1 that it translates is off air... [for some reason] .. It's picking up 90.1 WOUZ-FM instead.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong....but I thought NCEs could feed translators by means other than OTA. Has that changed? If not, why is EMF feeding this one OTA?

Commercial band translators (92.1 to 107.9 MHz) have to be fed by off-air pickup unless they are "fill-in" translators (inside the primary service contour of the parent station). Translators rebroadcasting AM stations are considered fill-in and may be fed by alternate means.
