W224CK Vestavia Hills/Birmingham sold

W224CK at 92.7 is being sold from La Promesa Foundation to "Avondale Metal Works" which I believe might be one of many alternate names of the Reynolds group. Avondale Metal Works purchased the other FM translator in the Birmingham area at 92.7 (now W226CT), moved it to 93.1 FM, and spun it off a year or so ago to Rivera Communications to rebroadcast their WAYE-AM. W224CK currently broadcasts IheartMedia's BIN network from WDXB HD2. Wonder what, if anything, happens to BIN once the sale is finalized?

Yeah, I thought it was one and the same.

So just wondering...given how close the W224CK transmitter is to the one for WZGX in Bessemer, is it possible they would use the new FM translator to rebroadcast WZGX, given the sale back to BAR Broadcasting seems to be dead in the water? Would Reynolds put such a combo back on the air and eventually spin it off to another company (as they did with now-W226CT when they purchased it from Glen Iris Baptist and spun it off to Rivera Communications)? Just pondering too as to the reason behind La Promesa selling the translator. Granted, they have W262AR at 97.9 which has a much better coverage area and rebroadcasts Irondale's WMMA-AM 1480. Could Iheart not be wanting to renew the lease on 92.7 and La Promesa would then be left without a revenue stream for the translator ($ coming in from Iheart)?

Also, if BIN winds up being dropped on 92.7 FM once the sale is finalized, where would Iheart move the programming? Maybe W293CM at 106.5 and replace the urban AC format there (B 106.5)? I can't think of any other local FM translator Iheart could use to broadcast BIN, at least one that's not performing well, anyway.

Whatever happened to W252BE at 98.3 that Reynolds owns? Wasn't that up for license renewal and the FCC was trying to determine if they were going to renew/cancel the license for the translator?

We peons arent qualified to ask these questions and discuss such highly sensitive material :)

when i do a search for avondale metal works, it shows as being a company a little over 4 years old, organized by greg mixon.

It shows an address as Two Perimeter Park South Suite 550-E, Birmingham, AL 35243
And that address comes back to this: Clerestory

Also at that address is this: Mixon Brown – Birmingham Law

The FCC record of licensee of WZGX (Red Mountain Ventures) and the application to purchase W224CK both have the same physical address of 41 Foxfire Circle, Indian Springs Village, AL listed. Isn't Red Mountain Ventures another name of the Reynolds group?

I did a search of 41 foxfire circle and got the indian village, alabama newsletter and in it they list permits applied for.. and in a 201 news letter was this:
Applicant: Matthew J. Ebbert
Owner: Matthew J. Ebbert
Address: 41 Fox Fire Circle

The only matthew j ebbert i found remotely tied to radio is a ham operator in NV and CA

Gosh, I can't imagine iHeart ever giving up 960 for something other than news/talk. And going back to AM and HD-only would be a big downgrade even though the translator is a smaller signal.

Has BIN even gotten any traction in any markets it's been on? I've heard a few times while travelling and thought it was mostly okay but never really heard any advertising beyond iHeart radio promos.

That's true. After all, it wouldn't be the first time that AM 960 has dropped talk. In 2011, WERC changed call letters to WVVB and started simulcasting "105.5, The Vulcan"s active rock format (for a mere four months time).

Oh, I had forgotten about that short lived flip to active rock. I never did understand that. It's not like the Vulcan needed an AM parent to simulcast, it was already on WQEN's HD2. I seriously doubt a single person actually settled for rock music on AM when there were two (or three, if you count streaming) other sources to choose from.

I remember that change well. I was in Pelham one day around that time and was scanning the AM radio dial and came across the active rock format on 960. I thought I was in some sort of alternate universe there, lol. My dad was NOT happy when 960 dropped the talk format. He could have kept listening to the FM signal as he was well within WERC-FM's coverage area, but he had been listening to WERC-AM since the station's change to talk in 1982. Tradition, ya know... ;)

I always thought that Iheart changed WERC-AM as a stopgap measure so the station would be listed in the Nielsen ratings (as WERC-AM). "The Vulcan" was on WQEN HD2 at the time, but weren't HD channels not listed in the ratings at that time? Just a guess...

Sorry. Duplicate post. Seems like some sort of bug whenever we try to edit a post. Either that, or I have no idea what I'm doing over here. lol

As of 10/26, the FCC has approved the transfer of the W224CK broadcast license to Reynol...er....Avondale Metal Works. Once the sale is consummated, what will "Avondale" do with it? Will the lease with Iheart to program their BIN on 92.7 remain? Will "AMW" use W224CK to rebroadcast their silent WZGX-AM in Bessemer? Will the translator be sold to another party, as they did when they purchased W224CN Leeds (now-W226CT) at 93.1? And ultimately, do I, as supposedly a "lowly streamer", have the right to discuss topics concerning "real radio stations"? 🤣😂

I'm not entirely sure that AMW is related to Reynolds, they list a home in "indian spings village, alabama" as their address with scott woodward, [email protected] as the rep.

but then the contact rep is listed as.... that same scott woodward with an address in DC, as an attorney.
the company was apparently organized in 2018 by another attorney, greg mixon.

Reynolds don't usually go to this length to hide their involvement... you can usually trace something back to them easier than this.

But... as a peeon, do i have the right to theorize and discuss this??

Not entirely sure, but see my previous post below on this thread. Isn't Red Mountain Ventures, licensee of WZGX-AM, Bessemer, another name the Reynolds operate under?

Whatever happened on the sale of W224CK? The license transfer to Avondale Metal Works was granted on 10/26/23 but there is no info given as far as the sale ever being consummated?

Well, just received an answer to my question. The consummation notice for W224CK was filed with the FCC today...just hours after posting about the subject last night.
